The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Washington forces Abedi back against the cage and clinches.

Abedi is fighting off a takedown attempt but Washington is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Abedi to the mat. Abedi regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Washington wants to get up but he can't break Abedi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Abedi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Washington working his ground and pound in the gym.
Washington throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Abedi works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Abedi controls Washington momentarily but Washington frees himself.

Abedi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
