Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayward throws a series of punches but Cherry avoids them all with ease.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cherry enables Hayward to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cherry manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Cherry will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Cherry keeping moving, preventing Hayward from controlling successfully.
Hayward slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Cherry has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hayward can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hayward would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Hayward looking to sit in guard and control but Cherry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hayward is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cherry is controlling him.
Hayward wants to hit a switch here but Cherry passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Hayward there!
Cherry blocks Hayward's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Hayward manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Cherry is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Cherry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hayward wants to control but Cherry is keeping busy.

Cherry is working for a kimura but Hayward is defending it quite comfortably.
Hayward wants to control the action here but instead Cherry manages to pass to full mount!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hayward can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hayward is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hayward is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cherry avoids the attempt from Hayward to control.

Hayward gets back to half guard.
Hayward tries to get to full guard but Cherry has control of the leg.
Hayward moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Hayward moves into the clinch.
Cherry is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hayward gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Cherry tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hayward smiles and moves away.

Hayward shoots in and bounces Cherry off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hayward content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Hayward trying to control but Cherry is working from the bottom.
Cherry keeping full guard, as Hayward tries to pass.
Hayward not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Clayton Hayward was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Hayward closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Hayward decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cherry to his feet.

Hayward shoots in and gets a takedown into Cherry's guard.
Hayward distracts Cherry with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Clayton Hayward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Hayward.
Hayward throws a body punch but Cherry moves out of range.

Hayward shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hayward was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hayward tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Cherry is looking to reverse the position.
Cherry takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Cherry stops Hayward from passing to mount.

Hayward decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cherry to his feet.
A head kick misses from Hayward.

Hayward is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cherry's half guard.
Hayward stops Cherry from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hayward wants to control but Cherry is keeping him busy.

Hayward decides to return to a standing position.
Cherry throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Cherry tries to bum rush Hayward with a series of wild strikes but Hayward uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hayward tries to close the distance and clinch but Cherry swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hayward throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
No joy there for Cherry, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hayward thows a left - swing and a miss!

Hayward closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hayward lands a big head kick that sends Cherry tumbling to the mat! Hayward takes a step backwards and waves Cherry back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Von Cherry has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hayward lands a huge takedown. Cherry is out but the ref is slow to react and Hayward lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Cherry lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Clayton Hayward!
