Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Jimenez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bret Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bret Schultz will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schultz sizes up Jimenez with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Schultz avoids the head kick by Jimenez.
Schultz lands a right hook to the body.

Schultz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jimenez on his heels. He'll look to pass Jimenez's guard now, I'm sure.
Jimenez really is a fat lump.

Jimenez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Schultz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jimenez has managed to get both his arms back between Schultz's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jimenez drives through and clinches with Schultz against the cage.
Schultz has Jimenez pressed against the cage, preventing Jimenez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Jimenez is pushing Schultz up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bret Schultz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Schultz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jimenez paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Schultz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jimenez won't be happy with that.

Schultz drops back looking for a leg! Jimenez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jimenez manages to kick Schultz off! Schultz jumps back into Jimenez's guard.
Jimenez wants to get back to his feet but Schultz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Schultz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Schultz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Schultz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Schultz has hold of Jimenez's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Jimenez tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Schultz cranks the arm and Jimenez screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Jimenez, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
