PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Roach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harley Darcy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jesse Roach!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Harley Darcy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ben Hemmingworth and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roach throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Darcy's waist but Darcy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Roach off to one side.
Darcy takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Darcy fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Darcy misses with an attempted mid kick.
Roach pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Darcy connects with a solid leg kick.
Roach takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Darcy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

You can see the frustration on Roach's face as Darcy controls the position.
Roach tries to improve position but can't.

Darcy is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Roach's shoulder. That is not cool.

Darcy decides to stand back up. Darcy steps back and let's Roach get back to his feet.
Darcy dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Roach. That did some damage!

Darcy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Darcy connects with a nice short shot to Roach's temple.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Darcy is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Roach has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Roach!

Roach stands and steps away. Darcy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Darcy counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Roach really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Darcy closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Roach is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Darcy gets to his feet - Roach follows without any prompting.

Darcy throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Roach tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Darcy is in Roach's guard.

Darcy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Roach manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Darcy has Roach in his guard.

Darcy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Roach just misses with a elbow thrown towards Darcy's brow.

Darcy's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Darcy pulls guard effortlessly.

Roach loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Darcy wants to sweep but no luck.
Roach will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Darcy is on top in guard.

Roach is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Darcy is aware though and is defending well.
Darcy is working Roach over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Roach is fighting off a takedown attempt but Darcy is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Roach to the mat. Roach regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Darcy has hold of one of Roach's legs. Roach is fighting the takedown attempt but Darcy gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
