Smith comes to the cage accompanied by 10 Years - All White. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Robert Owinashi!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Smith with that takedown attempt.
Smith definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Owinashi swivels and escapes.
Owinashi throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Robert Owinashi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looks like Johnny Smith has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Owinashi tries to bum rush Smith with a series of wild strikes but Smith uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Owinashi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Owinashi throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.
Owinashi throws a chopping leg kick but Smith manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Owinashi throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.

Smith throws a looping overhand right but Owinashi ducks down to avoid it.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Owinashi to the ground. Smith is now in Owinashi's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Owinashi is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Smith drops back, looking for a kneebar! Owinashi looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Owinashi looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Owinashi!
Owinashi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Owinashi wants to stand but Smith has his arm trapped.

Smith is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Owinashi decides to stand back up. Owinashi steps back and let's Smith get back to his feet.

Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Owinashi paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Smith gets a double leg takedown into Owinashi's guard.
Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Owinashi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Smith drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Owinashi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smith has Owinashi in his guard.
Smith has his hands on Owinashi's head, controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
Owinashi tries to stand but Smith is controlling from the bottom.
Smith seems keen to control Owinashi's posture.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Owinashi trying to stand up but can't free himself from Smith's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Owinashi dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Johnny Smith's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Owinashi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.
Owinashi throws a right and a left that both miss.
Owinashi lands a body shot.
Owinashi circles away from the clinch attempt.

Owinashi misses with a few strikes there.
The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Owinashi gets caught napping as Smith dives in and scores a takedown. Owinashi manages to retain guard.

Smith advances to half guard.
Owinashi is trying to stand up here but Smith is controlling him well.

Smith seems to be looking for submissions.

Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Owinashi is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Owinashi is defending well.

Smith is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Johnny Smith was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
