Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Toney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Avro Lancaster!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jorge Garcia and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toney changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lancaster tries to avoid it but Toney manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lancaster to the ground. Lancaster escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Toney shoots in for a double leg but Lancaster sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
James Toney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Toney darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Toney thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lancaster's head.
Toney is stalling here. Lancaster is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Toney seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Lancaster has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Lancaster might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Toney haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Toney's coaches at Soco na mãe - Stand Up Striking have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Toney wants to get back to his feet but Lancaster drags him back down.

It looks like James Toney has been cut.
Toney darts in looking for a takedown but Lancaster gets double underhooks and turns Toney into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Toney. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Toney blocks a body shot from Lancaster.
Toney is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Lancaster is defending well for now.

Lancaster controls Toney momentarily but Toney frees himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Toney accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lancaster is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Toney throws a strike but Lancaster rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Toney has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Lancaster is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Lancaster misses with a punch on the inside.
A nice left hand lands by Lancaster.
Toney has Lancaster pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lancaster manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lancaster is fighting off a takedown attempt but Toney is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Lancaster to the mat. Lancaster regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Toney knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lancaster on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lancaster looking for a sweep. Not yet Lancaster, not yet.
Lancaster is still trying to improve position.
Lancaster has momentary wrist control but Toney slips an elbow through the middle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Toney connects with a couple of short punches.
Toney throws a big right hand that misses.
Lancaster told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Toney dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lancaster throws a lazy right hand but Toney sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Lancaster lands a head kick. Toney smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Toney tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lancaster manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Toney shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lancaster as he avoids it easily.
Toney shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Lancaster counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Whack! Lancaster lands a heavy head kick that drops Toney. The ref tackles Lancaster to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Toney was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Avro Lancaster!
