The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes throws a predictable looking body shot
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Mendes misses with a takedown attempt - Guzman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mendes shoots in and bounces Guzman off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mendes landing with the ground and pound.
Mendes chips away with some ground and pound.
Mendes passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Mendes controlling the position from side mount.

Mendes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Guzman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mendes advances nicely into full mount.
Mendes with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Mendes is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Guzman is surviving well by controlling Mendes's body position as best he can.
Guzman tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Guzman tries to hold on but Mendes pushes him away.
Mendes lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mendes quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Mendes but it's paid off an Guzman is forced to tap! Nice work by Mendes.
