PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dewitt Mccall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dewitt Mccall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson moves into the clinch.

Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mccall feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Mccall changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mccall is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Johnson.
Mccall really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Johnson wants to control but Mccall postures up.
Johnson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mccall's best efforts.

Mccall is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Mccall eventually gives up the hold.

Johnson is looking to escape.
Johnson landing rabbit punches to the side of Mccall's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mccall is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Johnson sees it coming and defends easily.
Mccall seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Mccall seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Mccall is trying to work for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.

Johnson fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Mccall checks it well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mccall on his heels. He'll look to pass Mccall's guard now, I'm sure.

That was a close round but I would say that Dewitt Mccall will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mccall dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Johnson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mccall tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Johnson is in Mccall's guard.

Johnson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mccall is just riding it out for now. Johnson eventually gives up the hold.

Nick Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mccall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Johnson looking to break Mccall's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Mccall remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Johnson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Mccall is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Johnson gets his way!

Johnson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Mccall has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
