PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Slaughter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Norman Stitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Reggie Slaughter has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reggie Slaughter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norman Stitt!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stitt changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Slaughter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stitt circles away quickly and effectively.

Slaughter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stitt to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Stitt throws a big right hand that misses.
Stitt throwing strikes but missing.
Stitt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Stitt working some strikes from top position.
Slaughter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Stitt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slaughter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stitt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slaughter wants to stand and escape but Stitt is having none of it.
Stitt has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Slaughter is proving hard to escape from.

Stitt stands up and waves to Slaughter to follow him.
Slaughter tries to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Slaughter blocks a low kick nicely.
Slaughter is looking to clinch.
Slaughter swinging wildly here.
We've been told by Slaughter's head coaches at Valhalla:NY GYM that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Slaughter throws a nice looking combination but Stitt bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Stitt looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Stitt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Stitt throws a big elbow that misses.
Slaughter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Stitt trying to control but Slaughter is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slaughter controls Stitt momentarily but Stitt frees himself.

Slaughter is looking for a triangle but Stitt pushes his legs off easily.
Stitt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Stitt's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Stitt wants to control from the top but Slaughter keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Norman Stitt wasn't active enough on the ground.
Slaughter on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slaughter wants to clinch but Stitt slips to the side
and Stitt counters with a thumping low kick.
Stitt is looking to clinch.

Stitt drives through and clinches with Slaughter against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Stitt - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Stitt is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Slaughter to keep the fight standing.
Stitt prevents Slaughter from breaking the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Slaughter tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Stitt throws an elbow but it misses.
Slaughter looking to slow down the pace here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Norman Stitt dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A combination from Stitt does no damage.
Stitt stuffs the takedown.
Slaughter falls off balance throwing a combination
and Stitt counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Stitt gets a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Slaughter.
Slaughter working hard to break the clinch.

Stitt pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Stitt fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Slaughter to the ground. Stitt is now in Slaughter's guard.
Stitt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Slaughter is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Norman Stitt has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stitt is looking to pass into half guard but Slaughter pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Slaughter is in guard.
Slaughter preventing the sweep.
Stitt wants to get back to his feet but Slaughter is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Stitt is working an open guard so Slaughter takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Stitt moves in looking to clinch but Slaughter pushes him off.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Slaughter drops Stitt with a nice combination! Slaughter dives into Stitt's guard, looking to finish!


Stitt is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stitt is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Stitt has Slaughter pulled in close to control his posture.
Stitt looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Slaughter puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Slaughter decides to stand up.
Slaughter misses the shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stitt looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Slaughter shoots in looking for a takedown. Stitt tries to sprawl out of it but Slaughter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stitt manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Slaughter lands an overhand right.
Stitt tries to clinch but Slaughter moves out of range.

Slaughter cracks Stitt with an uppercut from hell and Stitt crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Slaughter's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Stitt is still in real trouble! Can Slaughter finish him?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Slaughter decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Slaughter steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Stitt is out on his feet! Slaughter sets himself and nearly takes Stitt's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Reggie Slaughter!
