Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joesph Ely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuuto Kawasati (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joesph Ely has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joesph Ely!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Yuuto Kawasati!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ely tries to close the distance and clinch but Kawasati swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ely dodges the punch combination from Kawasati.
Ely slips a jab and a cross from Kawasati.

Ely rushes Kawasati and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kawasati throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Ely blocks it with crossed arms.

Ely breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ely takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A combination from Ely does no damage.

Ely shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kawasati is trying to defend but Ely finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kawasati wants to get back to full guard.
Kawasati keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ely looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Ely is working for a kimura but Kawasati is defending it quite comfortably.
Kawasati is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ely trying to mount his opponent but Kawasati defends it.

Ely decides to stand and escape the position.
Kawasati tries a head kick but it misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ely fails with the takedown
and Kawasati counters with a good low kick that Ely was not able to check.
Kawasati feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Ely's calf.
Ely fails to land with a series of punches.
Yuuto Kawasati is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ely tries to clinch up but Kawasati circles away and keeps his distance.
Kawasati rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ely moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters circling a little - Kawasati finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Ely looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kawasati!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ely throws an elbow but Kawasati slips to the side and avoids it well.
Ely is staying tight to Kawasati's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Ely is trying to get an arm triangle but Kawasati is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ely wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kawasati keeps working.
Ely tries to move to mount but Kawasati blocks the move with his legs.
Kawasati tries to bench press Ely off him but Ely keeps the position.
Ely tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ely working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Kawasati is trying to improve his position.
Kawasati is not content to let Ely control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ely taking a break here but Kawasati is having none of it and regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joesph Ely dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kawasati looks to land a combination. Ely sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Ely throws a head kick but Kawasati moves out of range.
Ely dives in and grabs Kawasati's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kawasati pushes down on Ely's head and hops out.
Kawasati lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ely backs up against the cage.
Kawasati throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ely.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ely crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kawasati - the referee stops the clock and Ely gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kawasati. Ely manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Ely chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kawasati can pounce on him.
Kawasati stalks Ely and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ely's face. Ely staggers backwards, shaken.

Ely closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ely wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kawasati, who protects the arm well.

Ely goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kawasati has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ely but great work by Kawasati.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Ely's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ely is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kawasati wants to control but Ely is keeping him busy.

Ely looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Ely wants to control but Kawasati is keeping busy.
Kawasati wants to get back to his feet.
Kawasati seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ely does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kawasati postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Ely to stand up.
Kawasati swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kawasati throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ely is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ely blocks the body kick.
Kawasati throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Ely counters with a left and a right... And another left! Kawasati is down! He's done! The ref dives in to save him and that's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joesph Ely!
Our winner, Joesph Ely, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
