PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ziggy Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keiichi Yamada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ziggy Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Keiichi Yamada!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper swings for the body but Yamada moves out of range.
Yamada blocks a low kick nicely.
The crowd cheers as Cooper lands an impressive looking overhand right. Yamada doesn't seem phased though.
Yamada fails with a takedown attempt.
Cooper throws a body punch but Yamada moves out of range.
Cooper dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Ziggy Cooper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yamada keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cooper.
Cooper falls off balance throwing a combination

and Yamada counters with a shoot takedown. Cooper fights it but they end up in guard.
Yamada stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cooper swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cooper is trying to hold Yamada in close to prevent damage but Yamada has managed to pass into half guard.
Yamada is keen to just control but Cooper is a slippery customer.

Yamada is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cooper regains full guard. Nicely done.
Yamada looking to sit in guard and control but Cooper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cooper's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Yamada is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Cooper wants to sweep here but Yamada controlling him for the moment.

Cooper is looking for a triangle but Yamada pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Yamada has gone for a leg lock! Cooper slips out almost immediately though and dives into Yamada's guard.
Yamada looking to control.
Cooper wants to control from the top but Yamada keeps moving.
Cooper slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ziggy Cooper dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cooper misses with a hook to the body

and Yamada counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Yamada.
Cooper will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cooper throws his legs up looking for a submission but Yamada uses it to pass to side control.
Cooper is looking to regain half guard here but Yamada keeps moving and retains side control.
Cooper can't do much from the bottom here.

Yamada is working to tighten his grip on Cooper's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Cooper has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Yamada is really squeezing tight and eventually Cooper passes out! Yamada breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Keiichi Yamada!
