PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kai Urutaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guillermo Espada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Espada is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Greedy Fly. On his way into the cage it seems that Kai Urutaka has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Kai Urutaka seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kai Urutaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Guillermo Espada!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Urutaka misses with the combination.
Espada connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Urutaka momentarily.
Urutaka throws a body shot but no joy.
Urutaka takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Urutaka misses with a head kick.
Espada throws a hook to the side of Urutaka's head but Urutaka sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Urutaka closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Espada's guard.
Urutaka has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Espada is proving hard to escape from.
Espada looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Espada is trying to keep Urutaka in close.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Guillermo Espada wasn't active enough on the ground.
Espada dodges the punch combination from Urutaka.
Espada has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Urutaka is landing a low percentage of strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Espada swings for the body but Urutaka moves out of range.
Urutaka closes the distance and clinches up with Espada, looking for a takedown. Urutaka pushes Espada against the cage but Espada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Urutaka definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Espada throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Urutaka looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Urutaka's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Espada connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Urutaka scrambles back to his feet.
Urutaka will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Espada throws a body shot but no joy.
Espada cracks Urutaka with an open hand slap.
Guillermo Espada is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Urutaka feints a jab promting Espada to slip. Urutaka then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Espada slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Urutaka takes a jab right on the kisser.
Urutaka throws a right hand that Espada ducks under and follows up with a left that Espada also avoids with ease.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Urutaka moves out of range as Espada strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

and Espada cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Espada dips to his left and cracks Urutaka with an uppercut!


Urutaka is rocked!
Urutaka tries to bum rush Espada with a series of wild strikes but Espada uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Oh Urutaka is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Espada looks to score with a jab to the body but Urutaka is just out of range.
Urutaka seems to have got his legs back now.
Espada on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Urutaka slips under a jab from Espada.
Urutaka throws a shot from downtown. Espada moves away and avoids it.
Urutaka takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Urutaka looks to land a combination but Espada avoids it well.
Urutaka tries to close the distance and clinch but Espada swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Urutaka throws a combination that misses
and Espada counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Espada fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Urutaka to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Urutaka looks to clinch but Espada throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Urutaka taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Guillermo Espada!
After winning the bout, Guillermo Espada thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
