Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sammie Shelton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Cornell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cornell has chosen Voodoo, Godsmack as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sammie Shelton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Cornell!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shelton clinches up with Cornell and pushes him back against the cage.

Cornell turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Cornell manages to end up in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Cornell tries for a kimura but Shelton is defending well.
Shelton tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cornell thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Shelton gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Cornell is trying to take his opponent's back.
Shelton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Shelton has given up his back here. Will Cornell look for the submission or keep pounding away?

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shelton trying to get back to his feet but Cornell is in full control for now.

Cornell working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Shelton is doing well to defend. Cornell seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Shelton is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kurt Cornell!
In his post fight interview, Kurt Cornell started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
