Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tata Utog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Christopher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tata Utog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Christopher!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Christopher scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Tata Utog has been cut.

Christopher tries to sprawl but Utog drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Christopher trying to hold on to Utog's head to control him but Utog postures up.
Utog wants to stand up but Christopher has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Christopher is not content to let Utog control the position.
Christopher is looking for a sweep. Utog is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Christopher wants to get back to his feet.
Christopher is staying active underneath Utog, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Christopher trying to control from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Tata Utog wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Utog is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Utog looks to land a combination but Christopher avoids it well.

Utog on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Christopher shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Utog makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Christopher really felt that one!

Christopher tries to sprawl but Utog drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Christopher is holding on to half guard well.
Christopher is looking to improve his position.
Utog is taking a breather. Christopher says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Christopher moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Utog has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Tata Utog.

Christopher darts in and clinches Utog up against the cage.

Utog has picked Christopher up - he's going for a ride! Utog dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Christopher is controlling Utog's trapped leg to prevent Utog from advancing to side control.

The fighters are battling for position here. Christopher manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Christopher working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Utog doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Utog manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Christopher is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Utog presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Christopher looks winded!

Utog breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Christopher.
Tata Utog has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Christopher.
Nice takedown defense from Utog. No joy for Christopher on that attempt.
Christopher shoots for a takedown but Utog saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Utog is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Christopher's half guard.

Utog looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Utog knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Christopher on the ground.

Christopher wants to control but Utog is keeping busy.

Christopher looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Christopher looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tata Utog will probably get the nod.

Utog tries to close the distance and clinch up but Christopher swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Utog slaps away a takedown attempt from Christopher, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Christopher falls off balance throwing a combination

and Utog counters by moving into the clinch.
Utog is trying to break the clinch but Christopher is controlling him.
Utog looking to stall.

Christopher breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tata Utog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Utog throws a series of punches but Christopher avoids them all with ease.
Utog avoids the head kick by Christopher.

Utog shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Utog was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Utog wants to lay and pray for a moment but Christopher keeps working.
Christopher is looking to regain half guard here but Utog keeps moving and retains side control.
Christopher is not content to let Utog control the position.

Tata Utog overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Utog wants to control but Christopher is keeping him busy.

Christopher takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Utog lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Christopher down.
Christopher tries to escape but Utog is in control.
Christopher seems a little lost for a moment, as Utog dominates the positioning.
Utog is looking to take a break and control but Christopher is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Utog cracks Christopher with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Utog is staying tight to Christopher's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Utog pushes Christopher off looking to stand but Christopher dives back in and keeps control.
Utog wants to control but Christopher is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Christopher trying to control the position but Utog is working away.
Christopher throws an elbow but Utog slips to the side and avoids it well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Christopher works to advance to full mount. Utog defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Christopher tries to control but Utog wriggling away.
Christopher content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Utog scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Utog wants to take a breather but Christopher is having none of it.
Utog is controlling the pace.
Christopher has his hands clasped together around Utog's back. He's all about the action.
Christopher wants to control but Utog is keeping busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Christopher was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Christopher shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Utog sprawls well. Utog wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Christopher gets slowly back to his feet.

Utog drives through with a takedown into Christopher's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Christopher takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Christopher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Utog shoots in and bounces Christopher off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Utog won't allow Christopher to get back to his feet.
Christopher wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Utog is now in half guard.

Christopher is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Utog pulls his head out easily.

Utog takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Utog trying to control the action but Christopher is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Christopher is looking to escape.
Christopher has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Utog is working away from the top position though.
Utog with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tata Utog wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Utog lands a head shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tata Utog showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Utog, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
