PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Bryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Piltz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bryan's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Flight of the Valkyries. Piltz has chosen Don't Stop Me Now as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Bryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Piltz!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bryan cracks Piltz with a right hand to the side of the head.


It looks like Mark Piltz has been cut.
Bryan scores with a hook.
Bryan swings for the body but Piltz moves out of range.
Bryan throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Piltz scores with a jab. Bryan acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bryan waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Piltz. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Piltz to the canvas! Can he finish him!?
Bryan definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Piltz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bryan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bryan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bryan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Piltz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bryan defends well.
Bryan won't allow Piltz to sweep him here.
Bryan distracts Piltz with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Bryan is standing up over Piltz. Piltz looks to escape but Bryan dives into side control.
Piltz gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Bryan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Piltz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bryan.
Piltz wants to get back to full guard.
Bryan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Bryan is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Piltz moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Piltz wants to hit a switch here but Bryan passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Piltz there!
Bryan lands with some strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Piltz is wriggling around trying to escape.
Piltz sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Bryan working over Piltz with some ground and pound. Piltz looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piltz has hold of Bryan's hands but Bryan slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Piltz is pressing down on Bryan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Piltz looking for a guillotine here but Bryan defends easily.

Piltz throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bryan uses it to pass to side control.
Piltz tries to bench press Bryan off him but Bryan keeps the position.
Piltz takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Piltz gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Bryan lands strikes from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Piltz works his way to full guard. Good work.

Piltz is looking for a triangle here but Bryan uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Piltz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Bryan lands some shots froms side control.
Piltz is looking for a sweep.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Piltz manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Bryan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Piltz.
Bryan gets back to full guard.
Piltz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bryan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Bryan dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mark Piltz's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bryan misses with a body kick.
Piltz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bryan.
Piltz throws a head kick but Bryan moves out of range.
Bryan misses with a hook. Piltz ducked under it nicely.
Bryan misses with a right hand
and Piltz counters with a three punch combo that has Bryan backing up. Bryan nods at Piltz to acknowledge the strikes.
Piltz misses the jab.
Bryan tests Piltz's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Bryan tries to score with a low kick but Piltz moves his leg out of the way.
Piltz scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Piltz swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Bryan closes the distance and clinches up with Piltz, looking for a takedown. Bryan pushes Piltz against the cage but Piltz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Piltz ducks under a wild hook from Bryan.

Bryan lands a high kick to the side of Piltz's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Bryan dives into guard, looking to finish.


Piltz is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Piltz throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bryan escapes and throws Piltz's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Piltz is still in real trouble! Can Bryan finish him?

Bryan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Piltz tries to bench press Bryan off him but Bryan keeps the position.
Piltz seems to have recovered his senses.

Bryan has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Piltz is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Bryan yanks on the arm and Piltz is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Bryan.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Daniel Bryan!
As Daniel Bryan got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: YES! YES! YES!'.
Mark Piltz spoke after the fight, saying 'It's a hard lot of fighters out here in Steel Penn. I'll be back in a ring soon enough.'.
