PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenalemodisa Mabogo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Rollins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mabogo comes to the cage accompanied by 3 Doors Down - Duck and Run. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kenalemodisa Mabogo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tony Rollins!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rollins shoots in for a takedown but Mabogo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A head kick misses from Mabogo.
Rollins fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Rollins clinches up against the cage.

Mabogo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rollins closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rollins working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Rollins lands a nice forearm strike.
Rollins throwing strikes but Mabogo manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Mabogo has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rollins managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Mabogo.
Mabogo wants to control but Rollins is keeping him busy.

Rollins throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Rollins controls the position for a moment.

Mabogo tries to stand but Rollins is controlling his head.

Mabogo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rollins can't do much from the bottom here.

Mabogo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Rollins is not content to let Mabogo control the position.

Rollins tries to bench press Mabogo off him but Mabogo keeps the position.

Mabogo is trying to get an arm triangle but Rollins is defending well.
Rollins can't do much from the bottom here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rollins can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mabogo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Mabogo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mabogo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Rollins lands a little strike from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rollins prevents Mabogo from improving position.
Mabogo wants to control but Rollins is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tony Rollins will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mabogo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Mabogo lands a big head kick that sends Rollins tumbling to the mat! Mabogo takes a step backwards and waves Rollins back to his feet - he wants the finish!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rollins fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mabogo sprawls well initially but Rollins persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rollins working over Mabogo with some ground and pound. Mabogo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Still in half guard, Rollins seems content to control.
Rollins is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Mabogo is trying to control but can't.
Rollins wants to pass the guard but Mabogo is defending well.
Mabogo is trying to stand back up but Rollins is controlling him
Mabogo wants to get back to full guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rollins lands a nice short elbow.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Rollins winds up and cracks Mabogo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Rollins tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mabogo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Rollins is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ground and pound from Rollins.
Mabogo wants to control but Rollins is keeping busy.
Mabogo is looking to improve his position.
Rollins lands with a punch from half guard.

Rollins looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Rollins trying to control from half guard but Mabogo is working away.
Mabogo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rollins stops Mabogo from standing up.
Mabogo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Tony Rollins has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rollins stands up over Mabogo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Rollins throws a big right hand that misses.
Rollins throws a strike but Mabogo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Rollins has his hands on Mabogo's head, controlling the position.

Rollins tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rollins doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Rollins looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rollins will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Mabogo trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rollins's guard.
Mabogo looking to sit in guard and control but Rollins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rollins controls from within his opponent's guard.

Mabogo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mabogo has momentary wrist control but Rollins slips an elbow through the middle.
Rollins postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Rollins won't allow Mabogo to sweep him here.

Mabogo keeping moving, preventing Rollins from controlling successfully.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rollins landing with the ground and pound.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rollins trying to control but Mabogo is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Tony Rollins will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Rollins throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mabogo finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Rollins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rollins shoots in but no luck this time.
Mabogo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Mabogo. Rollins shrugs it off though.
Rollins fails with the takedown.

and Mabogo counters with a thumping low kick.
Kenalemodisa Mabogo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Rollins.
Mabogo looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Mabogo thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Rollins if he has to take too many more of those.
Kenalemodisa Mabogo is winning the standup battle so far.
Rollins takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nice takedown defense from Mabogo. No joy for Rollins on that attempt.

It looks like Tony Rollins has been cut.
Mabogo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rollins tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mabogo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rollins somewhat.
Tony Rollins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mabogo connects with an inside leg kick.
Mabogo throws a leg kick which misses Rollins's front leg but catches the back leg as Rollins tries to avoid it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rollins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mabogo sprawls well. Mabogo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rollins gets slowly back to his feet.
Mabogo feints with a left and delivers a massive head kick! Rollins collapses like a ragdoll! Game over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Kenalemodisa Mabogo!
Kenalemodisa Mabogo tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
