And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Matthews!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews shoots in looking for a takedown. McRoberts tries to sprawl out of it but Matthews keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McRoberts manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McRoberts dives in for a single leg takedown but Matthews sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Matthews is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McRoberts pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Matthews successfully pulls guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
McRoberts wants to control from the top but Matthews keeps moving.
Matthews is trying to keep McRoberts in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Matthews looking to hit a scissor sweep but McRoberts is one step ahead there.

We're going to have a standup here because Josh McRoberts wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
McRoberts misses with a head kick.
McRoberts dives in and grabs Matthews's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matthews pushes down on McRoberts's head and hops out.
Matthews has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as McRoberts is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Josh McRoberts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Matthews closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McRoberts's guard.

McRoberts escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matthews gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Matthews accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Matthews thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

McRoberts is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Matthews is aware though and is defending well.
Matthews keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of McRoberts's head.

Matthews drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Matthews jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Matthews is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McRoberts is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McRoberts is trying to improve his position.

Matthews is going oldschool here, as he tries to force McRoberts to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so McRoberts shrugs it off.

Matthews lands a big shot there that rocks McRoberts but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

McRoberts is looking to control Matthews's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McRoberts avoid being mounted?

Matthews got a little sloppy there for a moment and McRoberts has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Matthews has managed to get both his arms back between McRoberts's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matthews keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of McRoberts's head.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:17 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Max Matthews! Max Matthews retains his heavyweight title!
After winning the bout, Max Matthews thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
