The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

RUSSO is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Battery trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Battery drops back looking for a leg! RUSSO is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and RUSSO manages to kick Battery off! Battery jumps back into RUSSO's guard.
Battery pushes down on RUSSO's leg and manages to get into half guard.
RUSSO won't allow Battery to pass to mount.
Battery thows a huge punch but RUSSO dodges it nicely.
RUSSO is pressing down on Battery's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Battery sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed RUSSO's guard.

Battery is trying to work for a kimura but RUSSO is defending well.
Battery moves nicely into side control.

RUSSO manages to work his way to half guard, despite Battery's best efforts.

Battery is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
RUSSO slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Battery pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. RUSSO is keeping the position for now.
RUSSO is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
RUSSO had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Battery is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. RUSSO Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Battery's back instead.
RUSSO is breathing heavily.
Battery can't escape the position.
RUSSO is trying to stick to Battery's back but Battery is turning into RUSSO. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in RUSSO's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Battery.
Battery keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of RUSSO's head.

RUSSO has his foot on Battery's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Battery works his way back into a safe position though.
