PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jason Bent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Turner's choice of entrance music: shot to the dark by day to remember. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Bent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Josh Turner!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bent fails in his attempt to clinch.
Turner throws a right and a left that Bent avoids nicely.
Turner looks to land a combination but Bent avoids it well.
Turner closes the distance but Bent moves to the side
and Bent counters with a thumping low kick.

Bent gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Bent slows down the pace here.
Turner drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Turner managing to block the knees to the body from Bent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bent throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Turner blocks it with crossed arms.
Bent landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Bent lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Turner or not.

Bent escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bent moves into range and clinches up with Turner.
Turner's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Turner jumps guard but Bent stands there with Turner around his waist. Turner gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Turner tries to stall but Bent uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Turner has hold of one of Bent's legs. Bent is fighting the takedown attempt but Turner gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Bent not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Bent is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Turner wants to stand but Bent is controlling his posture from full guard.
Bent managing to control the position.

Turner looking to pass the guard.
Bent throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Bent is looking to sweep but instead, Turner has passed into half guard.
Turner is taking a breather. Bent says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Turner stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Bent to get to his feet.
Bent wants to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Turner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jason Bent has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Turner.
Turner looks gassed!

Bent clinches up against the cage.
Bent lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Bent scores a nice knee to the body.
Bent wants to break the clinch but can't.
A body shot lands from Bent.
Bent is leaning against Turner and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Bent breaks from the clinch.
Bent wants to clinch up but Turner keeps it at a distance.
Bent closes the distance looking to clinch
and Turner counters with a thumping low kick.
Turner gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bent counters with an outside leg kick.

Turner has his takedown stuffed

and Bent holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Knees in the clinch landing for Bent.
Bent using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Bent keeps control of Turner as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Turner turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Turner is looking to take a break and control but Bent is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Turner is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Turner misses with the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Turner shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bent counters with a solid body kick.
Bent wants to clinch.

Turner closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Turner performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Turner wants to stand up but Bent has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Turner is looking to pass Bent's guard but actually Bent recovers to full guard.

Turner trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Turner is stalling in the full guard.
Bent is trying to keep Turner in close.

Bent uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Turner tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Bent holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bent has had enough of the clinch but Turner keeps him there for the moment.
Bent tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Turner fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Turner on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Turner misses with a knee to the head.
Bent prevents a takedown attempt there.
Jason Bent has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Turner.

Bent breaks from the clinch.
Bent looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Bent is looking to clinch but Turner is avoiding it.
Bent wants to clinch

and Turner counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Turner.

Turner decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Turner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bent scores with a kick to the body.

so Turner counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Turner wants to control from the top but Bent keeps moving.
Turner slips nicely into half guard.
Turner thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Turner is keen to just control but Bent is a slippery customer.

Bent has one foot on Turner's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Turner keeps the fight on the outside.

Turner shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Bent is working to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turner controlling his opponent.
Josh Turner has got the better of the ground game so far.

Turner jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Bent is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Bent and Turner has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Turner stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Turner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Bent misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bent is looking to clinch.
Bent clobbers Turner with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

and Turner counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bent's guard now.
Bent not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Turner is looking to advance position but Bent has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Turner tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bent punching from mount but Turner doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Turner can't escape the position.
Turner tries to hold on but Bent postures up.
Turner is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Turner is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Turner is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Turner wants to hold on but Bent pushes him away.
Bent trying to control but Turner is having none of it.
Turner is trying desperately to improve position.
Bent lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Turner really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Bent lands a big elbow.
Bent can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Turner is looking to escape.
Bent prevents Turner from getting the reversal.
Bent throws some wild stikes that Turner manages to avoid easily.
Turner can't escape the position.
Bent with the ground and pound from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bent prevents Turner from getting the reversal.
Turner manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Turner is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bent's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bent's back!

Turner has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Bent has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Bent tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Josh Turner.
I think Turner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
