PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darren Doyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darrel Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darren Doyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darrel Kim!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim tries to clinch but Doyle moves out of range.
Doyle swats away the attempt to clinch by Kim.
Doyle connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Doyle thuds his right hand into Kim's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Doyle could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kim looks for a takedown but Doyle sprawls well.
Kim shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Doyle defends it nicely.
Kim walks into a jab.
Kim shoots for a takedown but Doyle saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Darren Doyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darrel Kim.

Doyle scores with a nice head shot.
Kim closes the distance and clinches up with Doyle, looking for a takedown. Kim pushes Doyle against the cage but Doyle circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Kim moves into the clinch.
Doyle goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kim prevents it.
Doyle really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Doyle has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kim uses from the top position.
Kim postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kim's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Doyle is looking for a triangle but Kim pushes his legs off easily.
Kim trying to control but Doyle is working from the bottom.

Doyle is looking to stand up but Kim isn't so interested in that idea.
Kim sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Darrel Kim has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Kim tries to clinch but Doyle moves out of range.
Doyle swats away the attempt to clinch by Kim.
Doyle turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Kim shoots in for a takedown but Doyle shows good takedown defense.
Kim tries to score a power double leg takedown but Doyle sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kim somewhat.
Some wild striking there from Doyle.
Kim is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Kim manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Doyle on his heels. He'll look to pass Doyle's guard now, I'm sure.

Doyle not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kim trying to control the position from guard on top but Doyle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Doyle wants to stand up but Kim is controlling him.
Kim content to stall in guard here.
Doyle is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Darrel Kim hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Doyle tries to clinch but Kim is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Darrel Kim will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Kim throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kim is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kim throws a sloppy head kick and Doyle moves out of range easily.
Doyle moves out of range as Kim strikes.

Kim fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Doyle sprawls well initially but Kim persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Doyle is trying to maintain the position but Kim is very close to passing his half guard.
Doyle wants to get back to his feet.
Doyle is trying to control but can't.
Kim throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Doyle trying to control from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Doyle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Darren Doyle has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Kim shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Doyle pinned against the cage. Doyle gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kim.
You can see the frustration on Doyle's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kim thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Doyle managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kim.
Doyle is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kim asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Doyle tries to buck Kim off but Kim is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Doyle wants to get back to his feet.

Kim decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Doyle tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kim swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Kim fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kim shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kim was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kim is trying to get an arm triangle but Doyle is defending well.
A lull in the action here.
Doyle struggling a bit here.

Kim is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Doyle has escaped the position, nice work there.
Doyle is not content to let Kim control the position.
Kim wants to stand but Doyle has his arm trapped.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Doyle wants to control but Kim postures up.
Doyle is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kim has just dragged him back down to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darrel Kim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Kim shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Doyle's guard.

Doyle is really struggling to control Kim but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Doyle is looking to stand up but Kim isn't so interested in that idea.
Doyle is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Darren Doyle.
Doyle misses with a two punch combination.

Kim scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Doyle wants to get back to his feet.
Kim trying to pass the guard but Doyle defending well.

Kim seems to be working for a kimura but Doyle defends the submission attempt.
Doyle wants to control but Kim is keeping busy.
Doyle pushes Kim off looking to stand but Kim dives back in and keeps control.

Kim tries to pass to full mount but Doyle defends it.
Kim perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Doyle is looking to escape.

Kim is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Doyle has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kim throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Doyle wants to get back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Kim seems content to control.
Darrel Kim has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kim frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kim sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Let's hope that Kim has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Doyle is trying to reverse the position but instead Kim has taken his back - oops!
Kim tries to keep control of the position but Doyle is staying busy.
Doyle holding both Kim 's hands and preventing any damage.

Kim is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Doyle has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Kim has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Doyle taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Kim doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Darrel Kim!
