The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Makinov clinches.
Beck drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Beck on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Beck swings wildly with an uppercut but Makinov uses good head movement to avoid it.

Beck jumps guard and drags Makinov to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Beck wants to stand but Makinov is controlling the position.
Makinov wants to get up but he can't break Beck's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Beck seems keen to control Makinov's posture.

Makinov stands up and waves to Beck to follow him.

Makinov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Makinov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Beck is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Makinov's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Makinov's back!

Beck gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Makinov closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Makinov is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Beck is defending well for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Beck manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
