PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miyamoto Musashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoki Kurinoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Musashi comes into the arena with Andrea Bocelli- Time to Say Goodbye blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Miyamoto Musashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoki Kurinoshi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurinoshi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Musashi.

Kurinoshi has his foot on Musashi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Musashi works his way back into a safe position though.
Musashi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kurinoshi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Musashi passes Kurinoshi's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Musashi is looking for a kimura but Kurinoshi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Musashi to get the leverage.

Musashi passes to side control.
Musashi is trying to move to mount but Kurinoshi reverses beautifully and ends up in Musashi's guard.
Kurinoshi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Musashi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kurinoshi wants to control from the top but Musashi keeps moving.

Musashi throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kurinoshi escapes and throws Musashi's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Kurinoshi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Musashi is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Musashi manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Kurinoshi trying to mount his opponent but Musashi defends it.

Kurinoshi escapes and gets back to his feet.
Kurinoshi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kurinoshi stuffs the takedown attempt from Musashi. Musashi gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kurinoshi ducks under a wild hook from Musashi.
Musashi misses with a low kick.
Kurinoshi avoids the body shot from Musashi.
Musashi uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kurinoshi has time to react.
Kurinoshi tries to close the distance and clinch but Musashi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Musashi throws an overhand right that lands on Kurinoshi's shoulder, as Kurinoshi tries to avoid the shot.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kurinoshi gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Musashi stuns Kurinoshi with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Kurinoshi tries to clinch but Musashi is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Miyamoto Musashi will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kurinoshi.

Kurinoshi decides to stand back up. Kurinoshi steps back and let's Musashi get back to his feet.
Kurinoshi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Musashi swivels and escapes.
Kurinoshi doesn't manage to clinch there - Musashi circles away.
Kurinoshi wants to clinch.
Kurinoshi throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Musashi fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Kurinoshi is breathing heavily.

Musashi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kurinoshi as he jumps to the side.
Musashi thows a body shot but no joy.
Musashi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Musashi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Musashi has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Musashi looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Kurinoshi wants to control but Musashi is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kurinoshi regains half guard.
Musashi works his way into side control.
Musashi tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Musashi lands an elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Musashi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Musashi decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kurinoshi moves in looking to clinch but Musashi pushes him off.
Musashi throws a body punch but Kurinoshi moves out of range.
Musashi swats away the attempt to clinch by Kurinoshi.
Musashi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kurinoshi moves away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kurinoshi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Kurinoshi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Musashi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kurinoshi's guard.
Musashi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Musashi seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Kurinoshi has recovered full guard.

Musashi is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kurinoshi has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Musashi is looking to defend but Kurinoshi has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Musashi! Kurinoshi pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Musashi taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Yoki Kurinoshi!
