PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Antti Silava (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devon King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Antti Silava!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Devon King!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King looks to land a left hand but Silava moved out of range nicely.

King closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Silava won't allow King to pass to mount.
King seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silava does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Silava regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from King.
Silava has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
King throws a big right hand that misses.

King throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
King passes Silava's left leg - he's now in half guard.
King thows a huge punch but Silava dodges it nicely.

King is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
King slips a nice elbow through Silava's hands, connecting with Silava's forehead.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.

King is working for a kimura but Silava is defending it quite comfortably.

King is nestled in close to Silava, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
King is looking to take a break and control but Silava is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Silava knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for King on the ground.

King thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silava's head.

King is pressing down on Silava's thigh, looking to free his foot. Silava is holding on for now.

Silava keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
King slips a nice elbow through Silava's hands, connecting with Silava's forehead.
King is thwarting Silava's attempts to control the position.
Still in half guard, King seems content to control.
Silava avoiding damage under a succession of punches from King.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
King takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
King has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Silava won't allow King to pass to mount.
King content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Devon King dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


King on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Silava has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. King is working away from the top position though.

King works his foot free and advances to mount.
King is in the full mount, landing strikes.

King lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

King goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Silava is on top in guard.

King pushes a forearm under Silava's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Silava is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Devon King!
An out of breath Devon King thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
