PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Nicholls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dean Nicholls was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 17 - 2, fighting out of London, Rashad Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Nicholls!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nicholls circles away quickly and effectively.
Nicholls cracks Evans with an open hand slap.
Nicholls tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Evans is able to avoid easily.
Nicholls lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Evans is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nicholls.
Evans lands with a hook. Nicholls tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Nicholls fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Evans checks it well.

Evans feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Evans wants to control from the top but Nicholls keeps moving.
Nicholls is pulling down on Evans's head. It's preventing any offense from Evans, at least for the moment.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nicholls trying to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Evans is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Nicholls on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Evans has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Nicholls throws a leg kick but Evans sees it coming and moves out of range.
Evans on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Evans smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Evans throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nicholls looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Nicholls. Evans shrugs it off though.
Nicholls throws a nice outside leg kick.
Nicholls attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Evans fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nicholls manages to avoid it.

Nicholls closes the distance and clinches.
Evans lands with a right to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nicholls lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Evans.
Nicholls throws a punch but it's blocked by Evans.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice left hand lands by Nicholls.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Evans.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Nicholls.
Evans tries to break the clinch but Nicholls is controlling the position.
Nicholls swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Nicholls tries to land a knee to the head but Evans blocks with his arms.
Nicholls misses with the head strike.
Evans lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Evans wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Nicholls has a couple of punches blocked by Evans.
Nicholls with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Evans pushes Nicholls back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Evans breaks the clinch.
Nicholls tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Evans manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nicholls walks into a straight right hand from Evans.
Evans works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Nice cross by Evans.


Nicholls is rocked!
Nicholls walks into a stiff left hand from Evans.
Nicholls is still on wobbly legs! Can Evans finish him?
Nicholls throws a wild body kick that Evans sees coming a mile off.
Evans flashes Nicholls a smile before throwing a beast of a right hand, straight down the pipe. Nicholls's eyes follow the hand right onto his nose, taking in it's full glory... and then darkness. Nicholls crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Evans punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Rashad Evans!
Our winner, Rashad Evans, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
The defeated Dean Nicholls had this to say: 'I can do better than that, if he fights me again he won't win!'.
