PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jonas Muikku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henk De Vries (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Muikku comes to the cage accompanied by Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough. De Vries has chosen EXODUS - Throwing Down as his entrance music. Henk De Vries will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonas Muikku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Henk De Vries!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Vries showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Muikku.
Muikku throws a series of punches but De Vries moves out of range.
De Vries is looking to clinch.
De Vries's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and De Vries duly obliges.
De Vries fails with the takedown.

De Vries looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Muikku wants to improve his position but De Vries is controlling well.
De Vries wants to lay and pray for a moment but Muikku keeps working.

De Vries is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Muikku doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time De Vries.
De Vries wants to free his trapped foot but Muikku is holding on for dear life with his legs.

De Vries is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Muikku has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. De Vries is working away from the top position though.
Muikku is refusing to be controlled, as De Vries sits in half guard.
Muikku is looking to improve his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Muikku fails to land with a series of punches.
De Vries takes a swing at Muikku's ribcage but misses.
De Vries looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Muikku scores with the left hand. De Vries knows he should have avoided that one.
De Vries throws a head kick but Muikku moves out of range.
Muikku uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by De Vries.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
De Vries throws a series of punches but Muikku moves out of range.
Some wild striking there from Muikku.
Muikku circles away from the clinch attempt.
Muikku throws a combination but it was largely blocked by De Vries.
De Vries tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Muikku paws at him with a jab and circles away.
De Vries showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Muikku.
De Vries checks a leg kick.
A punch combination from Muikku misses.
Muikku takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Muikku throws a lazy head kick

and De Vries counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

De Vries drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and De Vries jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
De Vries looks gassed!

Muikku had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. De Vries is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Muikku Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take De Vries's back instead.

Muikku throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Muikku is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but De Vries has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

De Vries is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Muikku gets his way!
Muikku doesn't have the hooks in and De Vries manages to turn into his guard.
De Vries trying to control the position from guard on top but Muikku is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
De Vries forces his way into half guard.
De Vries moves nicely into side control.

Muikku tries to improve position but can't.
De Vries taking a breather here.

De Vries wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Muikku, who protects the arm well.

De Vries has hold of Muikku's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Muikku seems comfortable defending it but De Vries has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Muikku is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Muikku is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but De Vries couldn't care less - he's delighted!
