PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darryl Maxwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Binns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maxwell comes to the cage accompanied by Black Label Society - Southern Dissolution. Binns is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Money For Nothing by Dire Straits. Danny Binns will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Darryl Maxwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Danny Binns!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Binns closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maxwell is looking to regain half guard here but Binns keeps moving and retains side control.
Binns trying to control the position but Maxwell is working away.

Binns swings around for an armbar but Maxwell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Binns's guard.
Binns is pulling down on Maxwell's head. It's preventing any offense from Maxwell, at least for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Binns tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Maxwell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maxwell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Maxwell is pushing down on Binns's leg trying to pass to half guard. Binns is fighting to maintain full guard but Maxwell has managed to sneak the leg through.
Maxwell thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Binns's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Still in half guard, Maxwell seems content to control.

Maxwell is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Binns wants to improve his position but Maxwell is controlling well.
Binns is refusing to be controlled, as Maxwell sits in half guard.

Maxwell thows a huge punch but Binns dodges it nicely.
Binns wants to improve his position but Maxwell is controlling well.

Maxwell wants to control but Binns is keeping him busy.
Maxwell prevents Binns from standing back up.
Maxwell is looking to take a break and control but Binns is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Maxwell is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Maxwell moves nicely into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Maxwell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maxwell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Maxwell throws a strike aimed at the side of Binns's head but Binns avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darryl Maxwell dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Maxwell shoots in but no luck this time.

Binns drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Binns wants to control from the top but Maxwell keeps moving.

Maxwell not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Danny Binns hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Maxwell enables Binns to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Maxwell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Binns wants to stand and escape but instead Maxwell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Maxwell drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Maxwell seems to have locked his on tight now - Binns screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Maxwell, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Darryl Maxwell!
