Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Russell Ives (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mamoru Takamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Russell Ives!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mamoru Takamura!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ives shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Takamura's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ives scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Ives loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takamura is trying to keep Ives in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Takamura avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ives with a flurry of punches that miss.
Takamura can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ives controls the pace.
Ives throws a big right hand that misses.
Ives working some strikes from top position.
Takamura tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Takamura keeping moving, preventing Ives from controlling successfully.

Takamura is pulling down on Ives's head to control his posture.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Takamura scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Takamura misses with a double jab.
Takamura fails to land with a series of punches.
Takamura slips under a jab.
Ives fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Takamura rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Ives counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Ives trying to control but Takamura is working from the bottom.

Takamura wants to sweep here but Ives controlling him for the moment.
Ives advances position into side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Takamura can't do much from the bottom here.

Ives tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ives has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ives throws a strike aimed at the side of Takamura's head but Takamura avoids it well.
Ives controls the position.
Takamura really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ives. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ives thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ives misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Takamura tries to escape but Ives is in control.
You can see the frustration on Takamura's face as Ives controls the position.
Ives throws a strike aimed at the side of Takamura's head but Takamura avoids it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ives working the ground and pound but Takamura is defending the strikes.
Ives in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Ives prevents Takamura from escaping the position.
Takamura tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ives wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Ives grinds an elbow into Takamura's temple.
Ives trying to control the action but Takamura is working from the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ives working the strikes but Takamura uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Takamura is looking to control Ives's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Takamura avoid being mounted?
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Russell Ives dominated that round.
That's time! Ives's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Takamura scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Takamura looks to score with a jab to the body but Ives is just out of range.

Ives shoots in and bounces Takamura off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Ives stopping the sweep attempt from Takamura.
Ives missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Russell Ives overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ives wants to control from the top but Takamura keeps moving.
Ives slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ives connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Takamura some visible discomfort.
Ives wants to control but Takamura is keeping him busy.
Ives lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Takamura down.
Takamura is not content to let Ives control the position.
Takamura tries to bench press Ives off him but Ives keeps the position.
Ives throws a strike aimed at the side of Takamura's head but Takamura avoids it well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Takamura can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ives is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Takamura is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Ives has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Takamura manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Takamura wants to get back to his feet.
Ives moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Ives looking for a triangle here. Takamura is fighting it but it looks tight! Ives pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Takamura is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Russell Ives!
A very excited looking Russell Ives made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
