Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyrann Mathieu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vin Diesel!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Diesel is defended easily by Mathieu.
Diesel shoots in and drives through. Mathieu sprawls well.
Diesel fails in his attempt to clinch.
Diesel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mathieu swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mathieu throws an off balance right hand
and Diesel counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mathieu's guard now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mathieu is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Diesel postures up in Mathieu's guard and throws a big left but Mathieu blocks it.
Mathieu pulls Diesel in close to prevent any damage.
Mathieu looking to control but Diesel passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Diesel sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mathieu defending well though.
Diesel is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Mathieu is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diesel's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diesel's back!
Mathieu doesn't have the hooks in and Diesel manages to turn into his guard.
Diesel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Diesel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mathieu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mathieu is on top in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diesel is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Diesel is trying to control the position but Mathieu postures up.
Diesel wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Diesel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mathieu doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mathieu manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diesel has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Mathieu doesn't defend quickly enough and Diesel has managed to lock this one up! Can Mathieu escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Diesel on a fantastic submission victory.
