Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Kiely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Derrick Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eddie Kiely!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kiely slips a jab and a cross from Johnson.

Kiely shoots in and gets a takedown into Johnson's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kiely loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Johnson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kiely.
Kiely with a nice head shot there.
Kiely scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kiely in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kiely pushes down on Johnson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kiely uses his free foot to push down on Johnson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Johnson.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Johnson is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson wants to get back to his feet.

Kiely throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Kiely slips a nice elbow through Johnson's hands, connecting with Johnson's forehead.
Kiely has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kiely thows a huge punch but Johnson dodges it nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kiely on the ground.

Johnson has hold of Kiely's hands but Kiely slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kiely connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.

Kiely takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kiely is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kiely throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kiely is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Johnson is in a horrible position here. Kiely smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Kiely dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kiely shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but Kiely keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kiely has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kiely.
Johnson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Derrick Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Kiely manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Johnson on his heels. He'll look to pass Johnson's guard now, I'm sure.
Kiely stops Johnson from standing up.
Kiely tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.
Kiely is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kiely's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Eddie Kiely hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Johnson tries to bum rush Kiely with a series of wild strikes but Kiely uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kiely shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Johnson is trying to defend but Kiely finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kiely tries to pass to full mount but Johnson defends it.
Kiely lands strikes from half guard.
Kiely thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Kiely is looking to advance position but Johnson won't allow it.
Kiely takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Eddie Kiely has got the better of the ground game so far.

Let's hope that Kiely has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Eddie Kiely wasn't active enough on the ground.
No luck for Kiely with that takedown attempt.
Derrick Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie Kiely.
Kiely jabs Johnson to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Kiely closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. Kiely pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Johnson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kiely tries to clinch but Johnson moves out of range.
Kiely misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kiely tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kiely somewhat.

Johnson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kiely.
Kiely avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kiely tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Johnson defends well and Kiely ends up having to push Johnson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kiely jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Johnson walks away with a smile on his face. Kiely gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kiely misses with a takedown attempt
and Johnson counters with a left and a right that stings Kiely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Johnson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Kiely gets the takedown into side control.
Kiely trying to control the action but Johnson is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Kiely showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Kiely darts in looking for a takedown but Johnson gets double underhooks and turns Kiely into the cage.
Johnson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kiely is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Johnson to keep the fight standing.
Kiely keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Johnson's efforts to push away.
Kiely tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Derrick Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie Kiely.
Kiely keeps control of Johnson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Johnson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck for Kiely with that takedown attempt.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kiely feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Kiely changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kiely missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kiely throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Johnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kiely lands a couple of digs.
Johnson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kiely is working Johnson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kiely cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Oooh a big shot lands for Kiely! Johnson is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!
