Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sylvain Sauvage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Fowler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fowler has chosen "On The Hunt" by Lynyrd Skynyrd as his entrance music. Austin Fowler has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sylvain Sauvage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Austin Fowler!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sauvage moves into the clinch.
Fowler tries for a takedown. No joy.
Sauvage using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Fowler has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Sauvage lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Austin Fowler has been cut.
Sauvage is working Fowler over against the cage.
Fowler is looking to take this one to the mat.
Fowler can't break the clinch.
Sauvage digs a right hand underneath Fowler's ribcage. Fowler let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Sauvage is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Fowler can't fight it off and eventually Sauvage manages to take the fight to the floor. Fowler looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sauvage loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Fowler looking for a sweep. Not yet Fowler, not yet.
Sauvage might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sauvage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Fowler tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Fowler manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sauvage manages to get himself to full guard.
Sauvage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fowler is looking to work some ground and pound but Sauvage has wrist control.

Fowler with a flurry of punches that miss.
Sauvage utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sauvage is controlling Fowler's posture.
Fowler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fowler lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Fowler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Fowler distracts Sauvage with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Sauvage wants to sweep here but Fowler controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fowler wants to pass the guard but Sauvage is keeping the position.
Fowler is in close to Sauvage's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Sauvage is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sauvage throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Sauvage manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Fowler is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Sauvage pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Fowler is desperately trying to improve his position but Sauvage has a good base and remains in mount.
Fowler is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sauvage tries to control but Fowler wriggling away.

Sauvage controlling the pace for now.
Sauvage throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Fowler is trying to escape the mount.
Fowler regains half guard.

Fowler looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Sauvage is looking to take a break and control but Fowler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fowler regains full guard. Nicely done.
Fowler wants to sweep but no luck.

Fowler working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Sauvage has passed into half guard!
Sauvage slips a nice elbow through Fowler's hands, connecting with Fowler's forehead.

Fowler avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sauvage.
Sauvage working over Fowler with some ground and pound. Fowler looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fowler manages to get to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sauvage wants to control from the top but Fowler keeps moving.
Fowler wants to sweep here but Sauvage controlling him for the moment.
Sauvage has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sauvage throws a big elbow that misses.

Fowler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sauvage doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sauvage manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fowler bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sauvage's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sylvain Sauvage will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Austin Fowler's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sauvage looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Sauvage tries to land a front kick but Fowler steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Sauvage is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Fowler moves into range and connects with a jab.
Sauvage tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fowler swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sauvage gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

and Fowler counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sauvage's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fowler lands a couple of digs.


Sauvage is rocked!
Fowler chips away with some ground and pound.
Oh Sauvage is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fowler lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Fowler postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Fowler lands a couple of elbows.
Fowler arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Sauvage's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Austin Fowler!
Austin Fowler really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that CEC Nutrition Q160 logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
