PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darren Doyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyp Gibson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darren Doyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyp Gibson!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doyle fails to land with a series of punches.
Doyle looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Gibson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Doyle wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gibson has him pressed against the cage.
Doyle fails to pull guard.
Doyle is trying to pull guard but Gibson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Doyle really is a fat lump.
Doyle wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Doyle is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darren Doyle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Doyle tries to score a body lock takedown but Gibson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Doyle tightens his grip and picks Gibson up, before dumping him to the ground. Gibson manages to land in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Gibson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Doyle doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Doyle manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kyp Gibson was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Gibson has closed the distance and engaged Doyle in a clinch.

Gibson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Doyle gets tackled into the cage by Gibson. Gibson maintains the clinch.
Doyle tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gibson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Gibson jumps into guard, dragging Doyle to the mat.
Doyle would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gibson is controlling Doyle's posture.

Doyle throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gibson wants to stand and escape but Doyle is having none of it.

Gibson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gibson has a closed guard, preventing Doyle from standing up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gibson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doyle is one step ahead there.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gibson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Doyle defends it easily.
Doyle has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Doyle wants to get up but he can't break Gibson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gibson is on top in guard.

Doyle is trying to keep Gibson in close.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Doyle has his feet on Gibson's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

A close round but Kyp Gibson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gibson shoots in looking for a takedown but Doyle manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gibson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Doyle is looking to control Gibson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Doyle avoid being mounted?

Gibson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Doyle working to try and regain half guard.
Gibson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Doyle is looking to escape.

Doyle wants to hold on but Gibson pushes him away.
Kyp Gibson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Doyle tries to lock up and control but Gibson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gibson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Doyle is looking to get to half guard.
Gibson looking to finish Doyle with some ground and pound. This is bad for Doyle!
Gibson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Doyle can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Doyle is desperately trying to improve his position but Gibson has a good base and remains in mount.

Gibson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Doyle has worked his arm free - good work by Doyle!

Doyle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Doyle is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Doyle trying to remain calm as Gibson controls from the top position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gibson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gibson wants to stand but Doyle is controlling his arm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyp Gibson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Doyle moves in looking to clinch but Gibson pushes him off.
Gibson shoots in for a double leg but Doyle sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gibson.
Gibson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Doyle connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Darren Doyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyp Gibson.
Gibson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gibson throws a low kick but Doyle avoids it.
Kyp Gibson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Doyle gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gibson stops Doyle from standing up.
Gibson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Doyle controls Gibson momentarily but Gibson frees himself.
Doyle pulls Gibson in close to prevent any damage.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Doyle not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Darren Doyle.

Gibson closes the distance and pushes Doyle back into the cage.

Gibson has picked Doyle up - he's going for a ride! Gibson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
It looks like Gibson is going to stand back up.
Gibson stops Doyle from getting back to his feet.

Doyle is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gibson pulls his head out easily.
Doyle tries to kick Gibson off but Gibson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Gibson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Gibson passes to side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Doyle pushes Gibson away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gibson gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Let's hope that Gibson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Gibson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Doyle is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Doyle is trying to get back to his feet.
Gibson slows the pace down.

Gibson content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Gibson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Doyle keeps working.

Kyp Gibson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gibson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
