PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jae Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bo Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jae Wong has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jae Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bo Baker!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wong gets caught napping as Baker dives in and scores a takedown. Wong manages to retain guard.
Baker wants to pass the guard but Wong is keeping the position.
Baker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Wong is looking to stand up but Baker isn't so interested in that idea.
Baker trying to control the position from guard on top but Wong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wong pulls Baker in close to prevent any damage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bo Baker hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Baker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Baker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Wong is looking for a sweep.
Wong is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Baker looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Baker working away.
Baker trying to control the position but Wong is working away.

Baker is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wong has escaped the position, nice work there.

Wong controls the position for a moment.
Baker working away.
Baker misses with the ground and pound.
Wong tries to improve position but can't.
Baker trying to control the position but Wong is working away.

Baker tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Baker has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Baker decides to stand back up.
Wong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Baker tries to avoid it but Wong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Baker to the ground. Baker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Baker shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Wong wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Baker stands and throws Wong's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Wong is trying to control Baker's posture but Baker avoids it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wong really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Baker grinds an elbow into Wong's temple.
Baker landing a few strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
You can see the frustration on Wong's face as Baker controls the position.
Baker tries to stand but Wong is controlling his head.
Wong is trying to control Baker's posture but Baker avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bo Baker dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wong tries to score a power double leg takedown but Baker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wong somewhat.

Baker drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wong is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Baker is controlling him.
Baker slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wong is staying active underneath Baker, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Baker might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wong haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Wong keeping control of the position.
Baker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Baker looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Wong is refusing to be controlled, as Baker sits in half guard.

Baker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wong's head.
Baker is stalling here. Wong is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Baker seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Wong has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Baker is looking to improve his position.

Wong is trying to work for a kimura but Baker is defending well.
Bo Baker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Baker wants to control but Wong is keeping busy.
Wong sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Baker defending well though.
Baker moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Wong throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Baker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Baker pulls Wong in close to his closed guard and prevents Wong from doing any damage or advancing position.
Wong working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Wong won't allow Baker to sweep him here.
Baker has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Wong has passed into side control.
Baker tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bo Baker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Baker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Baker is looking to take a break and control but Wong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Baker throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Baker takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Baker missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Jae Wong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bo Baker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Bo Baker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Baker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
