PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Valdemar Friman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor McManus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Friman comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica - Damage Inc.. McManus has chosen Jeff Danna - 'The Blood of Cú Chulainn' as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Valdemar Friman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Connor McManus!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Friman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
McManus pulls Friman in close to prevent any damage.
Friman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Friman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

McManus wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Friman has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

McManus escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Friman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Friman has his foot on McManus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McManus works his way back into a safe position though.

Friman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Friman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McManus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Friman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McManus's guard.

Friman throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Friman fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches McManus on the side of the head.

Valdemar Friman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McManus misses with a hook. Friman ducked under it nicely.

Friman uses good head movement to avoid the hook from McManus.

Friman is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

McManus winds up and cracks Friman with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Friman is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in McManus's half guard.

McManus has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Friman is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McManus's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McManus's back!

Well McManus has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
