PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jean Ben Faur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Peter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ben Faur comes into the arena with remember the name blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Ben Faur!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dave Peter!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peter shoots for a double leg takedown but Ben Faur sprawls well. He's pushed Peter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ben Faur chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Peter dives in and grabs Ben Faur's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ben Faur pushes down on Peter's head and hops out.
Ben Faur tries to clinch but Peter is having none of it.
Ben Faur looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Peter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ben Faur as he jumps to the side.
Jean Ben Faur has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Peter.
Peter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dave Peter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Peter moves in looking to clinch but Ben Faur pushes him off.
Peter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Peter takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Dave Peter has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Peter misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Ben Faur has closed the distance and engaged Peter in a clinch.
Ben Faur has Peter pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Peter manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ben Faur gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Peter regains guard.
Peter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ben Faur controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ben Faur throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Peter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ben Faur's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ben Faur has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ben Faur wants to pass the guard but Peter is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ben Faur shoots in for a double leg but Peter sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ben Faur wants to clinch.

Peter moves into range and clinches up with Ben Faur.
Ben Faur has Peter pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Peter manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Peter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ben Faur shoots in for a takedown but Peter shows good takedown defense.
Peter throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Ben Faur shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Peter napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Ben Faur tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Peter tries to buck Ben Faur off but Ben Faur is having none of it.

Peter manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Ben Faur is trying desperately to improve position.

Peter wants to take Ben Faur's back here but Ben Faur is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Peter tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Ben Faur tries to strike from the bottom but he's left himself exposed and Peter has taken his back.

Peter has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ben Faur has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Peter just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Peter is trying to stick to Ben Faur's back but Ben Faur is turning into Peter. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Peter's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Ben Faur.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ben Faur not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Peter can't keep his opponent in guard - Ben Faur advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Ben Faur stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Peter to get to his feet.

Ben Faur fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Peter to the ground. Ben Faur is now in Peter's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ben Faur drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ben Faur jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Peter looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jean Ben Faur dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Dave Peter's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ben Faur circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ben Faur fails with the takedown.
Ben Faur lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Peter misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Peter closes the distance and pushes Ben Faur back into the cage.

Ben Faur pulls guard.
Peter wants to control from the top but Ben Faur keeps moving.
Peter is looking to stand up but Ben Faur won't let him.

Ben Faur has his foot on Peter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Peter works his way back into a safe position though.
Peter wants to control from the top but Ben Faur keeps moving.
Peter is breathing heavily.
Peter is looking to stand up but Ben Faur won't let him.

Ben Faur seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Peter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ben Faur is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Peter presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Ben Faur gets control of Peter's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ben Faur will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Peter wants to stand but Ben Faur is controlling his posture from full guard.
Peter wants to stand and escape but instead Ben Faur has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Ben Faur passes Peter's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Ben Faur throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Ben Faur is looking for a kimura but Peter is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ben Faur to get the leverage.

Ben Faur is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Peter throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Peter is staying active underneath Ben Faur, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Ben Faur stands up out of the half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ben Faur.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A punch lands to the side of Ben Faur 's head but he takes it in his stride.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Peter wants to clinch.

Peter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ben Faur, pushing him back against the cage.
Peter content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Ben Faur tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Peter just stands there and leans against the cage.

Ben Faur's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A combination from Peter does no damage.
Peter throws a right and a left that Ben Faur avoids nicely.
Peter throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Peter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Peter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ben Faur controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ben Faur works over Peter with some ground and pound from guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ben Faur chips away with some ground and pound.
Ben Faur trying to control the position from guard on top but Peter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ben Faur gets to his feet - Peter follows without any prompting.
Jean Ben Faur is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ben Faur shoots in but Peter avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Peter displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Peter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ben Faur.
Ben Faur with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Peter to score with a decent uppercut.
Peter pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Ben Faur gets a takedown into half guard.

Ben Faur is keen to just control but Peter is a slippery customer.

Ben Faur is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Peter is just riding it out for now. Ben Faur eventually gives up the hold.

Ben Faur is looking to take a break and control but Peter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Peter misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Peter flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Peter has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ben Faur is working away from the top position though.
Ben Faur thows a huge punch but Peter dodges it nicely.
Ben Faur lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Ben Faur is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Peter sees it coming and defends easily.

Ben Faur is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Peter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ben Faur.
Jean Ben Faur is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ben Faur wants to control but Peter is keeping him busy.
Peter is positioning himself well to prevent Ben Faur advancing to mount.
Dave Peter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well, if Ben Faur is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Peter wants to get back to his feet.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ben Faur, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jean Ben Faur decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
