PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikey Duffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duffy has chosen Down with the Sickness as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fred Baggins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mikey Duffy!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Roberts and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baggins works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Duffy works the jab nicely.
Baggins throws a right and a left that Duffy avoids nicely.
Baggins scores with a jab. Duffy acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Baggins swings for the body but Duffy moves out of range.
Baggins cracks Duffy with a good jab.

Baggins drops Duffy with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Duffy looks back up at him and smiles so Baggins waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

and Duffy counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Duffy.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Baggins has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Duffy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Duffy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Duffy throws a strike but Baggins rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That was a close round but I would say that Fred Baggins will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Duffy tries to free his leg and advance position but Baggins is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Duffy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Duffy throws a strike aimed at the side of Baggins's head but Baggins avoids it well.

Duffy misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Baggins avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Duffy.
Duffy works to advance to full mount. Baggins defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Duffy is trying to control here but Baggins has managed to regain half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Duffy thows a huge punch but Baggins dodges it nicely.

Mikey Duffy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Mikey Duffy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Duffy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
