PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jonah Noel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tonjok Palelu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonah Noel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tonjok Palelu!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noel with a lazy takedown attempt

so Palelu counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Palelu trying to control but Noel is working from the bottom.
Palelu not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Palelu is looking to work some ground and pound but Noel has wrist control.

Palelu thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Palelu slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Noel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tonjok Palelu wasn't active enough on the ground.
Noel shoots and misses

and Palelu counters by clinching up.
Palelu misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Noel.

Palelu pulls guard effortlessly.
Palelu will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Palelu working a defensive guard but Noel manages to pass into side control anyway.

Noel blocks the strikes from Palelu.
Noel working away.
Noel trying to control the position but Palelu is working away.
Palelu manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Palelu looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Palelu tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Still in half guard, Palelu seems content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Palelu is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Noel sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Palelu not doing much here.
Palelu trying to mount his opponent but Noel defends it.
Palelu sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Noel defending well though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tonjok Palelu dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Palelu throws a sloppy head kick and Noel moves out of range easily.

Palelu bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Palelu throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Noel works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Palelu with the ground and pound but Noel uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Palelu wanted to stand there but Noel had control of the position.
Palelu distracts Noel with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Palelu has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Palelu sitting in guard here, content to control.
Palelu postures up in Noel's guard and throws a big left but Noel blocks it.
Palelu slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tonjok Palelu was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Palelu clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Noel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Noel misses with a takedown

and Palelu counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Palelu wanted to stand there but Noel had control of the position.
Noel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Noel is controlling Palelu's posture.
Noel wants to hit a switch here but Palelu passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Noel there!

Noel in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Palelu landing strikes from the mount.


Noel is rocked!
Palelu with a couple of short strikes.
Oh Noel is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Palelu connects with a bit shot that sees Noel covering up! More strikes from Palelu and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Palelu is our winner by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tonjok Palelu!
