These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Peter Higgens!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yuki Takano!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takano lands with a nice body kick.
Takano throws a shot to the body.
Takano throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Takano connects with a right hand. Higgens shakes it off.
Takano thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Higgens if he has to take too many more of those.
Takano throws a body punch but Higgens moves out of range.
Higgens has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Higgens dives in for a single leg takedown but Takano sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Takano lands a body shot.

Higgens lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Takano holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Takano has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Higgens wants to free his trapped foot but Takano is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Takano tries to roll over but Higgens keeps him under control.
Takano works his way to full guard. Good work.

Takano looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Higgens content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Takano has Higgens pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Yuki Takano wasn't active enough on the ground.
Higgens takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Takano throws a sloppy head kick and Higgens moves out of range easily.
Takano connects with a leg kick. Higgens looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Takano explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

and Higgens counters with a left to the body.

Higgens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Takano sprawls well. Takano wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Higgens gets slowly back to his feet.
Takano throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Higgens takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Yuki Takano is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Takano connects with a solid leg kick.
Takano pivots, looking for a leg kick but Higgens is out of range and Takano settles back down.
Takano lands a nice shot to the body.
A leg kick checked by Higgens.
Higgens drops his hands momentarily and Takano takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Higgens takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Takano tries to land a leg kick but Higgens saw it coming and moves away.
Takano motions for Higgens to come forward. Takano throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Takano lands a glancing blow to the side of Higgens's head.


Higgens is rocked!
Higgens takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Oh Higgens is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Takano fakes the leg kick and throws a superman punch. It's knocked Higgens out cold! Brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Yuki Takano!
Yuki Takano is the new featherweight champion!
Yuki Takano tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
