Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Woods!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akiyama Shinichi!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woods plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Woods throws a head kick that Shinichi semi-blocks.

Shinichi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Woods looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Woods tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Shinichi presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Shinichi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Woods is looking to escape.
Woods is looking to improve his position but Shinichi isn't that keen on the idea.
Woods gets back to half guard.
Woods is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at CCF's Flying Circus, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Woods is refusing to be controlled, as Shinichi sits in half guard.
Shinichi tries to pass to full mount but Woods defends it.

Woods is looking for a sweep. Shinichi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Woods is not content to let Shinichi control the position.

Shinichi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Woods defends it well.
Shinichi passes to full mount!
Woods is in all sorts of trouble here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shinichi trying to control but Woods is having none of it.

Woods is wriggling around trying to escape.

Shinichi goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Woods turns into him and now he's in Shinichi's guard.

Woods drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Woods jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Woods throws a big elbow that misses.
Woods trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Woods sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Shinichi's guard.

Woods is taking a breather. Shinichi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Shinichi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Woods is one step ahead there.

Our spies down at at CCF's Flying Circus inform us that Shinichi has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Woods wants to pass the guard but Shinichi is keeping the position.
Woods is looking to work some ground and pound but Shinichi has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woods wants to control from the top but Shinichi keeps moving.
Shinichi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shinichi lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Woods can't keep his opponent in guard - Shinichi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are battling for position here. Woods manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Akiyama Shinichi will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Shinichi blocks a head kick by Woods.
Woods throws a sloppy head kick and Shinichi moves out of range easily.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Woods lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shinichi has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shinichi and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Shinichi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Woods.
Shinichi fails with a takedown attempt.
Shinichi looks to clinch
and Woods counters with a body kick that stops Shinichi in his tracks momentarily.
Woods leaves Shinichi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Woods turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Woods tries for a kimura but Shinichi is defending well.
Shinichi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Woods wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Shinichi is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Woods's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Woods is thwarting Shinichi's attempts to control the position.
Woods seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Woods is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Shinichi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Woods drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shinichi looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shinichi looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shinichi!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Woods will probably get the nod.
That's time! Woods's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Shinichi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Woods's half guard.
Woods keeping hold of Shinichi's head, controlling as best he can.

Shinichi might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Woods haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Shinichi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Woods keeps working.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Akiyama Shinichi hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Shinichi misses with a takedown attempt - Woods sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Woods gets tackled into the cage by Shinichi. Shinichi maintains the clinch.
Shinichi blocks a punch to the side of the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shinichi is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Woods wants to break the clinch but can't.

And that's the end of the fight!
Akiyama Shinichi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Shinichi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Akiyama Shinichi was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
