The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillips misses with a body punch
and Mercado counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Phillips is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Mercado looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Phillips throws a body punch but Mercado moves out of range.
We've been hearing reports that Mercado has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Phillips shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mercado pinned against the cage. Mercado gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Phillips throws a leg kick but Mercado moved away.
Phillips misses with a body shot
and Mercado counters with a big head kick but Phillips shrugs it off.

Phillips shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mercado's guard.
Phillips forces his way into half guard.
Phillips passes to full mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Phillips is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mercado can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Mercado is in a horrible position here. Phillips smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Phillips tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Let's hope that Phillips has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
