PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Hope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez comes to the cage accompanied by Slipknot - Surfacing. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Drew Hope was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Ramirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Drew Hope!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hope tries to clinch up but Ramirez circles away and keeps his distance.
Nice takedown defense from Ramirez. No joy for Hope on that attempt.
Ramirez on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Hope scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Ramirez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hope's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hope's back!
You can see the frustration on Hope's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Ramirez doesn't have the hooks in and Hope manages to turn into his guard.

Hope gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Ramirez stuffs the takedown attempt from Hope. Hope gets slowly back to his feet.

Hope changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ramirez tries to avoid it but Hope manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ramirez to the ground. Ramirez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Anthony Ramirez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drew Hope.

Hope drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ramirez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ramirez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ramirez!
Hope is trying to control Ramirez's posture but Ramirez avoids it.

Hope throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Hope is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ramirez off and has taken his back!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hope trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Hope struggling to land strikes to the head as Ramirez covers up.

Hope is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Ramirez is defending well though. Hope let's go of the attempt for now.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hope fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ramirez darts in and clinches Hope up against the cage.

Ramirez pulls guard effortlessly.
Hope wants to stand and escape but instead Ramirez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Hope isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ramirez stacks Hope on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ramirez!
Ramirez is looking to take a break and control but Hope is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ramirez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hope tries to improve position but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hope is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Ramirez avoids the strikes from the bottom by Hope.

Hope wants to control but Ramirez postures up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hope shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ramirez counters with a single leg into guard. Hope didn't expect that.
Hope is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ramirez is controlling him.

Hope has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ramirez off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Ramirez counters by moving into the clinch.
Hope prevents a takedown attempt there.

Ramirez tightens his grip and picks Hope up, before dumping him to the ground. Hope manages to land in guard.

Hope looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ramirez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hope dives on top into guard.

Hope looks to throw the jab but Ramirez is out of range.
Ramirez avoids a kick to the body.
Hope doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ramirez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hope's guard.
Hope is trying to hold Ramirez in close to prevent damage but Ramirez has managed to pass into half guard.
Ramirez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hope keeps working.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hope gets full guard.
Hope lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ramirez!
Ramirez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hope wants to control the pace but Ramirez is squirming around nicely.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ramirez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Ramirez is squirming around, avoiding Hope's attempts to control the action.
Hope takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ramirez can't escape the position.

Hope controlling the pace for now.
Hope raining down shots from the mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hope lands a big shot there that rocks Ramirez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Hope is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ramirez is surviving well by controlling Hope's body position as best he can.
Hope landing strikes, looking to finish!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Drew Hope.
I think Hope has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
