PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Octavio Camacho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffrey Mathew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Octavio Camacho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeffrey Mathew!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Camacho fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mathew shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Camacho counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Camacho prevents Mathew from getting back to his feet.
Mathew has a closed guard, preventing Camacho from standing up.
Mathew thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Mathew has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mathew is trying to control the position but Camacho postures up.
Mathew lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Mathew stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Camacho swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Camacho wants to control but Mathew is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mathew wants to take a breather but Camacho is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Camacho has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mathew is working away from the top position though.
Camacho has a hand on Mathew's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Mathew takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Camacho wants to hold on but Mathew pushes him away.
Mathew trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Mathew is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Camacho tries to hold on but Mathew pushes him away.
Camacho blocking the ground and pound.

Mathew lands with some strikes.
Camacho is trying to reverse the position but instead Mathew has taken his back - oops!

Mathew is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mathew is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Camacho defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Camacho tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Mathew takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Camacho wants to control but Mathew is having none of it.
Camacho is working to get back to half guard.
Mathew lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Mathew is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Camacho is surviving well by controlling Mathew's body position as best he can.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mathew is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Camacho can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Camacho tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mathew looking to control but Camacho is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeffrey Mathew dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Mathew gets a clinch.
Mathew prevents Camacho from breaking the clinch.
Mathew blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Mathew escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Mathew instigates a clinch.
Camacho tries to break free but Mathew pushes him back against the cage.
Mathew tries to pull guard but Camacho forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Mathew is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Mathew has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Camacho is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Octavio Camacho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeffrey Mathew.

Camacho tries a body shot but Mathew blocks it.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Camacho has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mathew is proving hard to escape from.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mathew is on top in guard.
Camacho has his hands on Mathew's head, controlling the position.

Camacho is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mathew has taken the fight to the clinch.
Camacho has Mathew pushed against the cage.
Mathew tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mathew on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Mathew breaks from the clinch.
Mathew fails with the takedown

and Camacho moves into the clinch.
Camacho stalling in the clinch but Mathew improves position.
Mathew tries to pull guard but Camacho won't allow it.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Mathew wants to take the fight to the mat but Camacho manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Camacho breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mathew takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Nice defenses there by Mathew.
Mathew throws a nice looking combination but Camacho bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Camacho drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mathew looking to control but Camacho passes into half guard.

Mathew is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mathew is breathing heavily.

Camacho is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mathew keeping hold of Camacho's head, controlling as best he can.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mathew makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mathew.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jeffrey Mathew will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Camacho counters by moving into the clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Mathew has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Camacho regains guard immediately.
Mathew stands and throws Camacho's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Camacho knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mathew on the ground.

The referee asks Mathew politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mathew prefers to stall for the moment though.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jeffrey Mathew hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
