PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Abel Stamp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gus Dengel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Dengel's choice of entrance music: "Chainsaw" by Skinny Puppy. Abel Stamp has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Abel Stamp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gus Dengel!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stamp stuffs the takedown.
Dengel shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stamp pinned against the cage. Stamp gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Stamp looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dengel is fending him off so far but Stamp persists. Nope, Dengel circles away and we're back to standing.
Stamp pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dengel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stamp circles away.
Abel Stamp has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gus Dengel.
Dengel fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Stamp counters with a left and a right that stings Dengel.
Stamp shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dengel pinned against the cage. Dengel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Stamp moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Nice sprawl there from Stamp as Dengel shoots in.

Stamp tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dengel swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Stamp will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Stamp throws a sloppy head kick and Dengel moves out of range easily.
Stamp lands with a nice combination. Dengel backs away looking to recover.
No joy there for Stamp, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dengel avoids the head kick by Stamp.
Stamp scores with a one two! Dengel had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Dengel fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stamp sprawls well initially but Dengel persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Stamp moves into full guard.
Dengel scoring with punches to the head and body.
Dengel throws a big right hand that misses.
Dengel must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Stamp looking to control.
Stamp thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Dengel connects with a couple of short punches.

Stamp manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Dengel takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Stamp lands a jab-cross combination.
No luck for Stamp with that takedown attempt.
Dengel fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Stamp comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Dengel has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

A left and a right from Stamp both land. Nice combination.

A nice leg kick lands there from Dengel.
Dengel looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dengel wants to control from the top but Stamp keeps moving.
Stamp is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Stamp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dengel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Stamp will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Stamp will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Stamp looking for a guillotine here but Dengel defends easily.

Dengel gets to his feet - Stamp follows without any prompting.
Stamp swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Stamp throws a right hand that Dengel ducks under and follows up with a left that Dengel also avoids with ease.
Stamp throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gus Dengel will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Thud! ouch! good body kick from Stamp - that will leave a mark!

Dengel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dengel lands in his opponent's guard.
Stamp wants to sweep but no luck.

Stamp pushes Dengel off and gets back to his feet.
Stamp shoots for a double leg takedown but Dengel sprawls well. He's pushed Stamp's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Stamp misses with a jab, cross combination.

Dengel shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Dengel shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Dengel lands with a punch from half guard.
Dengel wants to take a breather but Stamp is having none of it.
Stamp is in trouble now - Dengel has advanced to mount!
Stamp wants to hold on but Dengel pushes him away.
Stamp in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Stamp is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Dengel has hold of Stamp's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stamp manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Dengel is breathing heavily.
Dengel lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Stamp hang on?
Dengel fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Dengel is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Stamp bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Stamp throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dengel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Stamp pushes down on Dengel's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Dengel is trying to get back to full guard.

Stamp stands up out of the half guard.

Stamp manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Dengel's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Dengel is working Stamp over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Stamp looking for a guillotine here but Dengel defends easily.
Stamp is trying to keep Dengel in close.
Dengel scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Stamp escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dengel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Stamp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dengel slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Dengel lands an elbow.
Stamp wants to control but Dengel postures up.
Dengel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stamp keeps working.

Dengel stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Dengel avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stamp throws a right hand that Dengel ducks under and follows up with a left that Dengel also avoids with ease.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Gus Dengel will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Stamp lands a really nice looking cross but Dengel seems unphased.
Stamp is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Stamp has his takedown stuffed

and Dengel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Dengel is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Stamp seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Stamp is looking for a kimura but Dengel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stamp to get the leverage.

and Dengel counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stamp won't be happy with that.
Dengel cracks Stamp with a big right hand but Stamp just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Dengel tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Stamp tries to improve position but can't.
Dengel in side control lands a decent elbow.

Dengel tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dengel has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

You can see the frustration on Stamp's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stamp is trying to get back to half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stamp tries to clinch but Dengel is having none of it.
Stamp shoots for a double leg takedown but Dengel sprawls well. He's pushed Stamp's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Dengel is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Dengel with the ground and pound but Stamp uses the opportunity to regain guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stamp is looking for a triangle but Dengel pushes his legs off easily.
Dengel postures up and lands a big shot to Stamp's brow.
Gus Dengel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dengel stays in close to Stamp's body and controls the position.

Gus Dengel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Dengel winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
