PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Briscoe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Briscoe is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by AC/DC TNT. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Briscoe!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Briscoe misses with a kick to the body.

Miller closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Briscoe to the mat! Briscoe manages to get full guard.
Briscoe wants to stand up but Miller is controlling him.

Miller keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Briscoe's head.
Miller thows a big elbow that misses.

Briscoe looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Miller controlling from the top position.
Miller trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Briscoe will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Briscoe wants to improve his position but instead Miller has moved into half guard.

Miller misses with a head shot. Briscoe uses the momentum to regain guard.
Briscoe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Miller has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Miller throwing strikes but missing.
Briscoe is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea.
Briscoe looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Miller accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Miller slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Briscoe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miller. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Briscoe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Miller gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Miller stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Miller fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Briscoe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Briscoe looks gassed!

Miller looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Miller stopping the sweep attempt from Briscoe.
Miller passes Briscoe's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Miller seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Briscoe is trying to control but can't.
Miller wants to take a breather but Briscoe is having none of it.
Briscoe tries to roll over but Miller keeps him under control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Briscoe scores a takedown into full mount!

Briscoe is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Briscoe misses with a double jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Miller dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


The fight stays on the outside here - Miller looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Miller fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Miller pivots, looking for a leg kick but Briscoe is out of range and Miller settles back down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Miller counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Miller wanted to stand there but Briscoe had control of the position.

Miller postures up in Briscoe's guard and throws a big left but Briscoe blocks it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Miller working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Briscoe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Briscoe looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Miller closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Miller lands in his opponent's guard.

Miller decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Miller fails with an attempt to clinch.

Miller will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Briscoe closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Briscoe is pressing down on Miller's thigh, looking to free his foot. Miller is holding on for now.
Miller makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Miller.
Miller can't keep his opponent in guard - Briscoe advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Briscoe is just content to waste time from the top position. Miller takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Briscoe trying to control the position from guard on top but Miller is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Miller looking for a sweep. Not yet Miller, not yet.
Briscoe postures up.

Briscoe stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Miller shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Briscoe counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Miller has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Briscoe is working away from the top position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jason Miller will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Briscoe takes the fight into the clinch.

Briscoe has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Miller clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Briscoe doesn't have the hooks in and Miller manages to turn into his guard.

Briscoe keeping busy on the bottom but Miller has passed one foot through into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miller gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Miller shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Briscoe's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Miller controlling from the top position.
Miller looking to pass the guard.

Briscoe throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Miller escapes and throws Briscoe's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Briscoe is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Miller has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Miller looks up at the clock and then as Briscoe takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Miller smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Briscoe is looking to reverse the position.
Miller remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Briscoe can do anything to dispel that myth.

You can see the frustration on Briscoe's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Miller controlling the positon.
Jack Briscoe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Briscoe tries to roll but Miller sticks to his back.
Miller tries to get the hooks in deep but Briscoe pushed the leg off.
Briscoe has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Briscoe tries to break free.

Miller has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Briscoe has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Briscoe rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jason Miller showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Miller, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
