Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jannis Arvanitidis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jannis Arvanitidis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Nelson!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Nelson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Arvanitidis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nelson wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Nelson on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.


It looks like Jake Nelson has been cut.
Arvanitidis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nelson.
Nelson slaps away a takedown attempt from Arvanitidis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Nelson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Nelson cracks Arvanitidis with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Nelson lands with a nice body punch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Nelson counters with a two punch combo.
Arvanitidis throws a nice looking combination but Nelson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Nelson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Nelson is looking to take a break and control but Arvanitidis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Arvanitidis has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Nelson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Arvanitidis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nelson pulls his head out easily.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Nelson working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Arvanitidis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Arvanitidis controls Nelson momentarily but Nelson frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Arvanitidis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nelson has managed to get both his arms back between Arvanitidis's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Arvanitidis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jake Nelson was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Arvanitidis clobbers Nelson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Nelson is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Arvanitidis rather than just go for the knockout.

Nelson feints and as Arvanitidis raises his hands in defense, Nelson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Arvanitidis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nelson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nelson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Arvanitidis has his foot on Nelson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nelson works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jake Nelson will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Arvanitidis throws a right hand that Nelson ducks under and follows up with a left that Nelson also avoids with ease.

Nelson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Arvanitidis napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Arvanitidis is trying to control but Nelson manages to pass to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Oh Arvanitidis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nelson cracks Arvanitidis with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake Nelson!

Our winner, Jake Nelson, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
