Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ismael Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Avent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Avent throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Reid was covering up waiting for the punch and Avent finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Avent stays in close to Reid's body and controls the position.
Reid is trying to control the position but Avent postures up.
Avent content to stall in guard here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John Avent wasn't active enough on the ground.

Reid looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Avent!
Avent is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The strikes coming from Reid are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Avent can do anything to dispel that myth.

Reid is trying to stand.
Avent seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John Avent.
Reid darts in looking for a takedown but Avent gets double underhooks and turns Reid into the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Avent closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Reid quickly recovers to half guard.
Avent is thwarting Reid's attempts to control the position.
Avent tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reid knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Reid tries to kick Avent off but Avent keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Reid is looking to get back to full guard here but Avent has managed to pass to side control instead.
Avent is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Avent is putting a hurting on Reid here, landing some big shots from side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Avent is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Reid's shoulder. That is not cool.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Avent wants to stand but Reid is controlling his arm.

Avent is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Reid has escaped the position, nice work there.
Reid might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Avent in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
You can see the frustration on Reid's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Avent tries to advance to mount but can't.

Avent wants to stand but Reid is controlling his arm.
Reid trying to remain calm as Avent controls from the top position.
Avent has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Reid is working to get back to half guard.
Avent takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
John Avent has got the better of the ground game so far.

Avent with shots to the head and body - Reid looks very uncomfortable down there.
Reid tries to hold on but Avent pushes him away.

John Avent showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Reid fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Reid shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Reid was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Avent keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Avent's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Reid is working for a submission of some sort.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Avent keeping hold of Reid's head, controlling as best he can.

Avent is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Reid's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Reid's back!

You can see the frustration on Reid's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Avent really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Reid.

John Avent comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Avent has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
