PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Katsu Masa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keenan Hudson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masa's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Samurai Battle March. Keenan Hudson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Katsu Masa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Keenan Hudson!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Topper Green and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masa lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Masa fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hudson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Masa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hudson swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Katsu Masa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Masa shoots and misses

and Hudson counters by clinching up.

Masa breaks from the clinch.

Hudson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Masa on his heels. He'll look to pass Masa's guard now, I'm sure.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hudson trying to control the position from guard on top but Masa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
My spies in Finch Farm inform me that Hudson has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Hudson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hudson with a flurry of punches that miss.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hudson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hudson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Masa tries to avoid it but Hudson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Masa to the ground. Masa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Masa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hudson defends well and Masa ends up having to push Hudson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Masa tries a body shot but Hudson blocks it.
Hudson takes a knee to the side of the body.
Hudson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Masa prevents Hudson from breaking the clinch.

Masa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Masa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hudson, pushing him back against the cage.
Masa lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Masa lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hudson backwards.
Come on Masa - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Masa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Masa fails with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Masa goes for a double leg but Hudson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hudson continues to drive forward.

Masa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Masa or perhaps it was just good defense by Hudson, which made it look bad.
Hudson throws a nice looking combination but Masa bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hudson fails with the takedown
and Masa counters with a nice uppercut.
Hudson looks winded!
Hudson misses with a takedown attempt - Masa sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Masa looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Masa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hudson's waist but Hudson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Masa off to one side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Masa clinches.
Hudson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Masa lands a good knee to the midsection. Hudson won't want to take too many of those.

Masa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Masa dives in for a single leg takedown but Hudson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Masa controlling the action here for a moment.
Masa lands a nice elbow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hudson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Masa breaks from the clinch.
Hudson shoots in for a takedown but Masa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Katsu Masa dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hudson walks forward, straight into a front kick from Masa.
Masa looks to land a combination but Hudson avoids it well.
Masa moves in looking to clinch but Hudson pushes him off.

Masa clinches.

Masa breaks the clinch.

Masa closes the distance and pushes Hudson back into the cage.
A right hook to the body lands for Masa.

Masa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Masa fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Hudson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Masa won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hudson wants to stand but Masa is controlling his arm.
Hudson is breathing heavily.
Hudson controls the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Masa wants to control but Hudson postures up.
Masa tries to improve position but can't.
Hudson is putting a hurting on Masa here, landing some big shots from side control.
Masa wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Masa tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Hudson presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Hudson throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Masa tries to lock up and control but Hudson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Masa tries to buck Hudson off but he can't manage it.

Hudson looking to control but Masa is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Masa tries to lock up and control but Hudson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hudson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Masa defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Masa wants to improve his position but Hudson is controlling well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Katsu Masa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hudson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Masa lands with a light punch inside.

Masa jumps guard and drags Hudson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Masa is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hudson is controlling him.
Masa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hudson is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keenan Hudson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Masa fails with a takedown attempt.
Masa leaves Hudson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Hudson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Masa doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Masa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hudson wants to control from the top but Masa keeps moving.
Hudson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Masa has his hands on Hudson's head, controlling the position.

Masa is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Hudson dives into side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Masa throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Masa can't do much from the bottom here.

Hudson shoots for a double leg takedown but Masa sprawls well. He's pushed Hudson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Masa decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Masa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hudson as he avoids it easily.

Masa moves into the clinch.

Masa manages to break the clinch.
Masa throws a right and a left that Hudson avoids nicely.
Masa tries to clinch there but Hudson circles away.

Masa tries for a takedown but Hudson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Hudson is looking to take a break and control but Masa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Keenan Hudson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hudson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
