PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Davies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelyanenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davies comes to the cage accompanied by Slow Chemical. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ben Davies!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelyanenko!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davies with a poor takedown

and Emelyanenko moves into the clinch.
Davies tries to pull guard but Emelyanenko won't allow it.
Davies jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Emelyanenko walks away with a smile on his face. Davies gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Davies. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Davies tries to clinch

and Emelyanenko counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Davies is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Davies is trying to control but can't.
Davies pushes Emelyanenko off looking to stand but Emelyanenko dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Davies tries to kick Emelyanenko off in order to stand up. Emelyanenko Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Davies manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Emelyanenko is staying active underneath Davies, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Davies passes to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davies wants to control the pace but Emelyanenko is squirming around nicely.

Davies moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Emelyanenko has worked his arm free - good work by Emelyanenko!
Davies tries to advance position but instead Emelyanenko slips a leg back in to half guard.
Emelyanenko is positioning himself well to prevent Davies advancing to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Davies wants to take a breather but Emelyanenko is having none of it.
Davies is looking to advance position but Emelyanenko won't allow it.

Davies is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Davies is breathing heavily.

Davies is looking for a kimura but Emelyanenko is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Davies to get the leverage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davies is pressing down on Emelyanenko's thigh, looking to free his foot. Emelyanenko is holding on for now.
Emelyanenko is refusing to be controlled, as Davies sits in half guard.
Emelyanenko is concentrating on defense, preventing Davies from advancing position.

Davies seems to be looking for submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Emelyanenko counters by clinching up.

Emelyanenko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Davies shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Emelyanenko counters with an outside leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Davies shoots and misses

and Emelyanenko counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Davies!
Emelyanenko controlling the position from side mount.
Emelyanenko's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Emelyanenko is continuing to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fedor Emelyanenko dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Davies gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Emelyanenko counters with a double leg. Davies bangs his head on the mat and seems to be on queer street here... Emelyanenko follows up with punches and the ref steps in to end the fight! It was the slam that caused all the problems.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Fedor Emelyanenko!
In defeat, Ben Davies stepped up to the mic, saying 'I will come back from this loss even better and come back with more determination.'.
