Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sergio Maurer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sergio Maurer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chuck Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maurer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ortiz's waist but Ortiz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maurer off to one side.
Ortiz shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Ortiz swings for the body but Maurer moves out of range.
Maurer connects with a jab.
Maurer throws a series of punches but Ortiz moves out of range.
Ortiz throws a lazy right hand but Maurer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Maurer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ortiz.
Maurer throws a jab when Ortiz was well out of range.
Sergio Maurer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maurer doesn't manage to clinch there - Ortiz circles away.
Maurer circles away from the clinch attempt.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maurer lands a jab.
Ortiz stuffs the takedown attempt from Maurer. Maurer gets slowly back to his feet.

Maurer moves into the clinch.

Ortiz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Maurer throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ortiz.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maurer shoots in for a takedown but Ortiz shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sergio Maurer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Maurer has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ortiz prevents Maurer from breaking the clinch.
Maurer tries to circle away but Ortiz has him pinned against the cage.
Ortiz is trying to pull guard but Maurer has him pressed against the cage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ortiz has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Ortiz decides to pull guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Ortiz is trying to keep Maurer in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ortiz avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Maurer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ortiz is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maurer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Maurer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ortiz can do anything to dispel that myth.
Maurer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Ortiz is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ortiz fails to land the takedown.
Maurer dodges the punch combination from Ortiz.
Maurer jabs at Ortiz's body.
Maurer closes the distance and clinches up with Ortiz, looking for a takedown. Maurer pushes Ortiz against the cage but Ortiz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Maurer lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Maurer.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Maurer connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Ortiz goes for a double leg but Maurer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Maurer continues to drive forward.
Ortiz looks winded!
Ortiz fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ortiz tries to break free but Maurer pushes him back against the cage.
Maurer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ortiz tries to pull guard but Maurer won't allow it.
Maurer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ortiz has him pressed against the cage.

Maurer breaks from the clinch.
Maurer lands with a big right hook that stumbles Ortiz - he's out on his feet here! Maurer follows up with another monster hook that separates Ortiz from consciousness! Ortiz falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Maurer stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sergio Maurer!
Sergio Maurer spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
