Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Russell Ives (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chuck Liddel told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Russell Ives!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chuck Liddel!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddel misses with a double jab.
Liddel staying out of range there.
Ives tries to bum rush Liddel with a series of wild strikes but Liddel uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Liddel takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Liddel slips a jab and a cross from Ives.

Ives misses with a straight left.
Liddel throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Ives defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Liddel.

Ives closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Liddel's guard.
Liddel wants to get back to his feet but Ives is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Liddel wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ives dives in for a single leg takedown but Liddel sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

We've been hearing reports that Ives has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Ives stuffs the takedown attempt from Liddel. Liddel gets slowly back to his feet.
Ives lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Ives will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ives bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Liddel's guard.

Ives won't allow Liddel to get back to his feet.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ives takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Liddel rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ives moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Liddel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ives.

Ives is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Liddel can do to turn this around?

Chuck Liddel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Liddel throws a sloppy head kick and Ives moves out of range easily.
Liddel moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Ives tries to clinch up but Liddel circles away and keeps his distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ives turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ives manages to end up in side control.

The fight stays on the outside here - Ives looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ives tries to clinch up but Liddel circles away and keeps his distance.

Ives has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Liddel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ives takes a swing at Liddel's ribcage but misses.
Ives connects with a looping right hand.

Chuck Liddel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Liddel fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Liddel throws a series of punches but Ives avoids them all with ease.

Ives is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ives cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Liddel is still in real trouble! Can Ives finish him?
Ives postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Liddel in real trouble here! The ref calls for Liddel to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Russell Ives!
A relieved looking Russell Ives thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
