PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Octavio Camacho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Materla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michal Materla has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Octavio Camacho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michal Materla!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Camacho fails with an attempt to clinch.

Camacho clinches up against the cage.
Materla being controlled against the cage.
Camacho tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Materla is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Camacho is pushing Materla up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Materla has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Camacho is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Camacho trying to control the position but instead, Materla has worked for underhooks and has pushed Camacho into the cage.

Camacho manages to break the clinch.
Materla throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Materla closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Camacho is pressed up against the cage. Materla has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Camacho down to the mat. Camacho avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Octavio Camacho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michal Materla.
Camacho uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Materla.

Camacho breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Materla misses with a wild body shot.
Materla keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Camacho fails with an attempt to clinch.
Materla missing with a left hand there. Camacho was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Materla gets caught napping as Camacho dives in and scores a takedown. Materla manages to retain guard.
Camacho won't allow Materla to sweep him here.
Camacho stops Materla from standing up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Materla can do anything to dispel that myth.

Materla looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Camacho lands a couple of elbows.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Materla is looking for a triangle but Camacho pushes his legs off easily.
Camacho is fighting to break Materla's control of his arms but Materla is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Materla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Materla is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Materla is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Materla is looking for a triangle but Camacho pushes his legs off easily.
Materla is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Camacho wanted to stand there but Materla had control of the position.
Materla wants to sweep here but Camacho controlling him for the moment.
Camacho working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Materla's head.

Camacho postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Materla controls Camacho momentarily but Camacho frees himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Camacho accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Camacho is looking to work some ground and pound but Materla has wrist control.
Materla looking for a sweep. Not yet Materla, not yet.

Materla looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Camacho passes into side control.
Camacho working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Materla tries to improve position but can't.
Materla can't do much from the bottom here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Camacho is trying to get an arm triangle but Materla is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Octavio Camacho will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Camacho looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Materla is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Camacho is aware though and is defending well.

Materla wants to stand up but Camacho is controlling him.
Materla looking for a sweep. Not yet Materla, not yet.

Materla is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Materla is on top in guard.
Camacho wants to sweep but no luck.
Materla controls from within his opponent's guard.
Camacho pulls Materla in close to his closed guard and prevents Materla from doing any damage or advancing position.
Camacho will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Materla working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Materla trying to control the position from guard on top but Camacho is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Michal Materla was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Materla shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Left hook, right uppercut from Camacho.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Camacho moves out of range of the strikes.
Camacho has his takedown stuffed

and Materla counters with a nice double leg into side control. Camacho won't be happy with that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Octavio Camacho. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Materla is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Camacho has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ground and pound from Materla seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Materla in side control, throwing shots but Camacho defends.

Camacho is not content to let Materla control the position.
Materla tries to move to mount but Camacho blocks the move with his legs.
Materla remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Materla tries to move to mount but Camacho blocks the move with his legs.
Materla staying calm.
Materla sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Camacho is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee asks Materla politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Materla prefers to stall for the moment though.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Michal Materla hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Materla tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Camacho swivels and escapes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michal Materla showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Camacho fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Materla, pushing him back against the cage.
Camacho looking to stall.
Materla has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Camacho after a bit of a struggle.
Camacho lands a shot to the body.
The referee calls for Camacho to work.
Materla has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Camacho avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Camacho as Materla tries to tie him up.

Camacho manages to break the clinch.
Camacho tries to clinch up but Materla circles away and keeps his distance.

Materla gets a takedown into half guard.
Materla is taking a breather. Camacho says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Materla missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Materla wants to lay and pray for a moment but Camacho keeps working.
Camacho won't allow Materla to pass to mount.
Materla not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Materla is working for a submission of some sort.
Camacho trying to hold on to Materla's head to control him but Materla postures up.
Camacho is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Materla is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Materla seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Camacho does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Materla looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Camacho is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Materla trying to control the pace.
Materla thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Camacho's head.

Materla wants to lay and pray for a moment but Camacho keeps working.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Materla throws a shot from downtown. Camacho moves away and avoids it.
Materla shoots in for a takedown but Camacho shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Octavio Camacho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michal Materla.
Materla misses with a looping right.
Camacho tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Materla paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Camacho looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Camacho wants to stand but Materla is controlling his posture from full guard.
Materla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Camacho is looking to stand up but Materla won't let him.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Michal Materla.
I think Materla has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
